DeChambeau told Golfweek’s Adam Schupak that the 15-time Major Champion has cut him off entirely. Even though he texts on his birthday, he has never replied back. Bryson DeChambeau looks back on his relationship with Tiger Woods
According to Bryson DeChambeau, Tiger Woods thinks his stance on LIV will “potentially hurting his record”. At this week’s LIV Golf Orlando, DeChambeau was asked if any PGA players have cut him off since his $125 million LIV move.
He laughingly noted, “Yeah, definitely, I’m sure you can guess who”. Tiger Woods, being a staunch supporter of the PGA Tour was bound to clash with LIV joiners including going against his old friends. DeChambeau said, “Yeah, I’m not going to throw anyone under the bus.”
“He’s been a great friend. I texted him on his birthday. It is what it is” . “He has his viewpoints on it and thinks we’re potentially hurting his record. If anything, nobody is ever going to touch his record.”
“That’s just it, that’s the bottom line. There’s a chance to grow the game even more and I hope one day he’ll see the vision that we all have out here.” He also stated that he “miss nothing” about competing in PGA Tour.
The LIV golfer further added, “I love the fans, I love the people who came to support me. I loved all that. We’re starting to get the crowds out here, slowly but surely. People are starting to get what the model is and people are starting to like the teams a bit.”
“From what I can see, the general consensus is things are moving in a more positive direction and I’m pleased with that”. Furthermore, Bryson DeChambeau’s contract with LIV will run for three years with hard options for quitting.
The LIV Golf has recently stated that if any players of their group wish to back out, they’ll need to pay “two, three or four times” their signing amount. DeChambeau also thanked Woods noting it is because of him that the Saudi-backed tour was formed.
“I have to look back and thank Tiger for this opportunity because he’s the one that’s ultimately created this“. Another example of a severed friendship would be between Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia. He even stamped McIlroy with tags of “immature” and “the one with the problem”.
