The current scene in the golf world has made one thing clear to all the pros: it’s time for a change. Rory McIlroy however, seems apprehensive about it. The World no. 1 was quite reluctant to make an appearance in Netflix’s new series, Full Swing.
Full Swing is a golf documentary that peers into the lives of elite golfers, their tournaments and constantly moving lifestyle. The show gives an all around view of golf, from the most famous names, to the new and upcoming ones. However, someone who surprisingly did not want to be in the docu-series is Rory McIlroy.
The star did not make an appearance in the first half of the docu-series at all. However, after the intense LIV Golf conversation came into play McIlroy had a change of heart. The big role that he played in the LIV Golf series meant that his contribution had to be recorded. But, McIlroy set some very strict rules for the Netflix Series.

McIlroy was very particular about what the series could film about, and what they couldn’t. “I sort of took the attitude of see how the first season works out, to see if I feel comfortable letting cameras get into my life a little bit more,” said McIlroy, talking about his initial plans.
However, soon things took a twist. “I made sure that the parameters were very much: You’re not coming to my house, you’re not coming in my car, you’re not coming anywhere near my family,” he said strictly to the Netflix documentary, regardless of how much it wanted to peer into his life.
“If you want to do some stuff with me at golf tournaments, that’s fine. They were the ground rules that were sort of set.” McIlroy is looking strong going into the WM Phoenix Open 2023, as ranked first in the world. It will be his title to defend, as 23 of the top 24 players will be at the tournament looking to grab points.
McIlroy however, has also taken a jab at Phil Mickelson in Full Swing. Rory was told that Phil Mickelson was suspended from the PGA Tour after his involvement with the LIV Series. To this the Irishman gave a sharp reply, “And he’s also dropped spots in the world rankings… beautiful.” The documentary will certainly be an entertaining one!
