The LIV Golf series has caused its fair share of controversy since the beginning of its season. The Saudi backed series has caught a lot of flak for being a controversial one for that very backing. While it broke the monopoly of the PGA Tour, the Series also introduced a new, fresh style of competitive golf.

The Series however, did manage to sign most of its players for large sums of money- a move which was not appreciated by the PGA Tour, or golf fans. With new rules, changes and a team style competition, these LIV Golf ‘rebels’ certainly seemed to be taking things at their own pace.

However, things quickly got sour as the PGA Tour banned them from the tour, and are now disallowing the renewal of their licenses for the 2022-23 season. Yet, the LIV Golfers are all set to play the 2022 BMW PGA Championships, an event that is organised by the DP World Tour. The DP World tour has not yet taken action against LIV players, and therefore they will be seen next week.

Not everyone is comfortable with playing with the newly signed players unfortunately. Many golfers from the PGA expressed their awkwardness about the situation, with Rory McIlroy saying that it would be “hard for me to stomach going to Wentworth in a couple of weeks’ time and seeing them there.”

However, Sergio Garcia does not seem to care. “I’m sure some guys will be tense about it [because] we’re going to go out there and play; what I’m going to do is support the European tour and that’s all I can do. Whoever doesn’t like it, too bad for them,”  Garcia said crisply to Golf Digest. What will happen next week remains to be seen, but it will be adding to the drama that has already split the golf world in half.
