The golf great did make a statement, however, it was not the one the fans had hoped for. He informed the organizers of the British Open that he will not be participating in the event.

The 47-year-old golf veteran has been having a hard time recently. A major reason for this has been his horrific car accident in 2021. He was involved in a single-car wreck on February 23. He suffered multiple leg injuries. According to officials, he was lucky enough to survive this accident. Perhaps the love and prayers from fans all around the globe helped him.

Making a comeback from such an incident was never going to be easy. “We have been advised that he won’t be playing at Hoylake,” Mike Woodcock of R&A informed. Fans are now worried about whether the golfer will ever play the game again. A timeline for his return has not been set yet. This announcement certainly rules him out for the remainder of the year.

There comes a time in an athlete’s life when they have to call it quits. Tiger Woods has enjoyed a stellar career in golf. The star athlete has become a golfing phenomenon during his career, adored by millions around the world. However with recent struggles and injuries, the question arises, is this it for Woods?

I don’t know how many more I have in me, I’m very lucky to have a leg,” Woods said before the Masters. The year 2023 has been a hard one for him. Both on-and-off-field issues have played a part in it. Recently his former girlfriend Erica Herman filed a complaint of sexual harassment against him. His few appearances have also seen his rankings take a massive toll.

Whether Woods will retire sooner rather than later is something that is to be seen. The golfer though has already made plans for the future. He along with Rory McIlroy launched a brand new TGL league. The first team in this league has been acquired by Serena and Venus Williams. The legendary golfer has also sought help from celebrities including Justin Bieber and Lewis Hamilton for this league.

Meanwhile, his 11-year-old son Charlie stole the show at the start of the US Open. His swings at the tournament have led to comparison to his father. It will of course difficult for him to follow in his footsteps and replicate the heroics of his father. Fans though would be hoping that he can lead the Woods lineage and carry on the legacy of his hall-of-fame father.
