On Sunday, Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland came out on top of a dramatic play-off round to earn his first victory on the PGA Tour. The 25-year-old got the better of Denny McCarthy by winning a one-hole playoff round to claim the 2023 Memorial tournament. In his short career so far, this is his fourth major win and his first since 2021.

Hovland had been in great form as of late. The uprising golf star had claimed top-seven finishes in his last three major events. After a great start, he lost his momentum late on and has to settle with a top-two position at the recent PGA Championships as Brooks Koepka took the cup home. This time though he made sure there was no similar incident.

Hovland took home the $3.6 million purse after some timely saves and crucial birdies. He did slip up but eventually found a way back through a couple of birdies. “I’ve been playing well, but I’ve just been trying to stay within myself and play my own game,” he said after the round. He later mentioned that it feels great to achieve this after having some close calls in the past few months.
