Will Zalatoris will unfortunately miss out of the 2022 Tour Championship after a fantastic display in the first tournament of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Zalatoris took his first ever PGA Tour win at the St. Jude Championships that happened a few weeks ago, but luck has not been on his side since. Poised to be one of the potential winners of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Zalatoris’ time competing was suddenly cut off at the BMW Championship.

Zalatoris had to retire from the third round of the BMW Championship. Zalatoris’ manager Allen Hobbs confirmed that he had to retire after the injury fired up when he tweaked his lower back during a shot on the third hole. He hit his approach to the back of the green and gingerly walked to his ball.

Zalatoris went on to address the ball, but looked in apparent discomfort, desperately trying to stretch out his back. Retiring from the competition there after, Zalatoris hoped that he would be in shape to play the third round of the FedEx Cup. Unfortunately for him, he might be out for longer than expected.

Zalatoris has unfortunately suffered from a back injury, that has taken a serious turn. Sitting at no.3 in the standings, this is certainly a blow to his chance of winning $18 million on the line. A statement released recently said, “Will Zalatoris has withdrawn from the Tour Championship due to a back injury.”

His medical team determined that the source of his back pain was two herniated discs. Unfortunately for him, this rules him out of the Tour Championship and the Presidents Cup- where he was supposed to represent United States and play under captain Love. “He is fully focused on getting health and back onto the course as soon as he is able,” read the statement.
