The long-speculated clash between Ian Machado Garry and Colby Covington is edging closer to reality. On two separate occasions, the Irish welterweight mentioned a contract in place, which he signed. Now it’s up to ‘Chaos’ to sign the contract for the clash. Yet another incentive Garry presents – is to fight on the UFC 303 card during International Fight Week. It is a card massively famous for the return of Conor McGregor.
Ian Garry rallied up his unwavering campaign to fight Covington after a win over Geoff Neal at UFC 298. Many felt Neal would win the bout, but fellow Irishman McGregor picked Garry. A Cage Warrior alum like Conor McGregor, Garry models himself after him to be the “disruptor” of UFC. Recent events have seen him bashed for it continually. However, Garry plans to turn it all into an exciting Irish vs. American affair at UFC 303.

Garry’s proposition holds more intrigue than that of Colby Covington’s three stipulations for a fight. The American welterweight just voiced jesty terms centered around the gag of Layla Anna-Lee’s 2010 satirical publication How to be a WAG. Meanwhile, UFC 303 poses a chance to be a card with phenomenal buyouts. Numerous fans and pundits already think Covington should sign. Check out Garry’s posts below.
Garry took to his IG and teased a collab with McGregor while training in his Crumblin Boxing Club. In yet another video, he called out ‘Chaos’ for UFC 303. ‘The Notorious’ consequently adds to the charm, irrespective of their banter. UFC Official listings have McGregor as the top PPV star. Garry could greatly benefit from the eyeballs that come with co-main eventing a McGregor PPV. As such, he remains confident about putting on the best performance against Covington.
Ian Garry talks about the importance of fighting on a Conor McGregor PPV card
In recent times, Ian Garry has been seen as quite a polarizing entity. There is no such thing as bad press as long as it gets fighters into the conversation. Multiple fighters have targeted Garry for his gym etiquette and trash-talk. Others like Colby Covington and Sean Strickland targeted Garry for his controversial relationship with his wife.
Irish combatants don’t mess around when it comes to their future resolve. As for ‘The Future’ – he wants to bank on his association with McGregor wholly in his vendetta against Covington. He wants to face ‘Chaos’ at UFC 303, marking McGregor’s return.
I’ve made it very clear I want Colby next, he does not have any other options, it’s the biggest fight he can have, it’s the biggest fight I can have right now, so let’s do it...[UFC 303] That would be my goal. To see McGregor vs. Chandler main event and Ian Machado Garry as the co-main...I look up to Conor as a role model and as an inspiration who proved anyone can achieve their dreams. I spoke to [UFC CBO] Hunter [Campbell] about it, if this opportunity comes, this has to happen. If Conor is fighting, put me on the same card.Ian Garry to Genting Casino (h/t MMAFighting for SBN)
Garry is not the first fighter to have taken inspiration from McGregor. Also, he is not the first fighter to have the desire to compete on a Conor McGregor PPV card. Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley famously wanted to co-main event a PPV card featuring McGregor. As such, Garry could enter the title picture with a win over Covington at UFC 303 if the fight happens.
