IPL 2020 CSK vs MI: A comfortable 10 wicket win for Mumbai after another disappointing performance from Chennai Super Kings

Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 10 wickets. MI completely outperformed CSK as Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock were enough to chase CSK’s target in IPL 2020.

MI won the toss and decided to bowl first in the match captained by Kieron Pollard as Rohit Sharma remained sidelined due to a hamstring injury from the last game. Chennai added Ruturaj Gaikwad, N Jagdeeshan, and Imran Tahir into their side. Chennai’s disappointing run in IPL 2020 continued as batting collapsed within the powerplay itself.

Gaikwad was dismissed in the very first over of Trent Boult who bowled a wicket maiden over. In the next over Jasprit Bumrah got the wickets of Ambati Rayudu and N Jagadeesan which left CSK struggling at 3/3 in just two overs. Faf du Plessis edged a catch to the wicketkeeper in the next over for just 1 run. MS Dhoni along with Ravindra Jadeja played some good stokes in the powerplay, but Jadeja was out in the sixth over as CSK were 21/5 in 5.2 overs.

Sam Curran the lone man standing

Dhoni was the next to go as he was dismissed by Rahul Chahar after hitting a big six. Sam Curran was the best player for CSK and scored a half-century as CSK somehow managed to get going in their chaotic innings. Imran Tahir and Sam Curran added vital 43 runs for the ninth wicket partnership which is the highest in IPL. Tahir made 13 while Sam Curran made 52 from 47 balls.

For MI, Trent Boult was the best bowler with impressive figures of 4-1-18-4. Bumrah and Rahul Chahar picked two wickets while Nathan Coulter Nile picked one. CSK made 114/9 after 20 overs.

Ishan Kishan and de Kock smash a 100 run partnership

Ishan Kishan in action during CSK vs MI

Mumbai chasing 114 runs looked comfortable as Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock were enough to chase down CSK’s target. Kishan was promoted to open the innings in absence of skipper Rohit Sharma.

Kishan didn’t disappoint and made his second IPL 2020 half-century after 99 runs knock against RCB. He made 68 from 37 balls hitting five sixes and six boundaries. De Kock on the other hand made 47 from 37 balls as MI cruised past CSK target in the 13th over.

With this loss, CSK remain at the bottom of the IPL 2020 points table with 8 losses in 11 games. CSK’s golden run of qualifying in the IPL playoff for previous 10 years is almost over after a dismaying season. MI are on the top of the table with 14 points in 10 matches and a slightly better net run rate than Delhi Capitals who are equal on points.
