IPL 2020: England and Australia players arriving in UAE to now quarantine 36 hours instead of 6 days
England Australia
There was a huge question mark on the availability of the Australian and England players arriving in the UAE before the Indian Premier League (IPL). This is because of the Australia tour of England limited-overs series in September.
However, teams in UAE will be relieved as Australian and English players now have to undergo only 36 hours quarantine. A senior IPL official has confirmed.
”Yes, I can confirm that all the English and Australian players have to now undergo 36-hour quarantine instead of six days. The matter has been sorted and most of the teams will now have their big stars available from the first game itself,” a senior IPL official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Any person arriving in the UAE has to undergo a mandatory quarantine period of 6 days. However, IPL franchises had requested BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to reduce the quarantine period.
”They have undergone one rapid test before boarding (the flight) and will undergo another on arrival. Otherwise, The robust testing protocols will be followed as usual. The rationale behind the move is that all the players are entering from one bio-bubble to another.” the BCCI official added.
IPL teams happy with the decision
The England and Australian players arriving in the UAE are now eligible to appear from the first game itself.
“The BCCI did a great job in reducing the quarantine period to 36 hours. This means teams like Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals will have all their players available from their first game. Ditto for Kings XI Punjab that has Glenn Maxwell and Delhi Capitals that has Alex Carry,” a franchise official told PTI.
The six day quarantine rule dosent affect Kolkata Knight Riders as they play their first game on 23 September.
A total of 21 Australian and England players will now be eligible to play IPL from the first game.
IPL 2020 extravaganza begins from 19th September in Abu Dhabi. Defending champions Mumbai Indians lock horns with the mighty Chennai Super Kings in the first game.
