Practice improves the skills of a person and Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson proved it in the 4th match of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old says that he feels happy that he has been able to bring smile on the face of his fans through his blistering knocks. His knock also saw RR registering a comfortable win against a belligernt CSK attack.

Samson scored a lethal 74 runs off 32 balls, with nine sixes and a boundary. His elegant hitting earned him praise from all across the globe.

“We are happy to bring smiles on the fans’ faces and we hope to continue doing so,” Samson said at the post-match presentation.

The more vigilant Steve Smith contributed 69 runs off 48 balls while a late flourish by Jofra Archer’s 27 off 8 balls made sure that RR reach a humongous score.

Samson, who awarded as the ‘Man of the Match’ after his heroics, said that his plan was clear to go gung-ho and hit all the deliveries for cleaners.

“My game plan is to stand and deliver. If it’s in the arc I go for it, and it’s very important to keep the intent to hit the ball if it’s there to be hit,” said Samson.

Royals was initially in a predicament in the wicket-keeping department with two established glovesman in their squad — Robin Uthappa and Jos Buttler. Samson, who pouched catches and dismissed two others through stumpings, said he worked hard on his fitness during the lockdown.

“I think range-hitting is what the game demands in this generation. I had time to work out in these 5 months, and I think I’ve increased the ability,” Samson said.

“I’ve been working hard on my fitness, diet and training, and on my strength, because my game relies a lot on power hitting,” he added.
