SRH
Match no. 56 of Dream11 IPL 2020 was won comprehensively by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they book a place in the playoffs of the tournament. The result also means Kolkata Knight Riders are out of the tournament due to a lower net run rate than RCB and SRH.
Mumbai Indians (MI) playing with Rohit Sharma for the first time in five matches went to bat first after SRH opted to field first. MI having already qualified in the playoffs decided to try new combinations as they rested Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Rohit Sharma come back after injury. The start for MI was poor as Rohit got out in the third over to Sandeep Sharma, trying to clear the field. Quinton de Kock went after Sandeep Sharma in the fourth over hitting 2 sixes and a boundary in four-ball. However, he was out in the next ball with an out-swinging full toss ball.
Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav tried to bat on for MI after the powerplay with a short partnership. But they lost three wickets in two overs and left themselves in a challenging position. Krunal Pandya was out for a duck while Saurabh Tiwari made 1 run. Suryakumar made 36 while Kishan made 33.
Pollard rescues MI
Kieron Pollard played the role of a wonderful finisher as he hit three back to back sixes in the 19th over. He was also dropped on the boundary line during one of the six but Pollard took advantage of the situation and added more runs for his side. He got out to Jason Holder after hitting him for a six on the first ball of the final over. Thanks to his quickfire 41 runs from 25 balls MI reached 149/7 after 20 overs.
Sandeep Sharma was the star performer for SRH with 3 wickets in four overs. Shabaz Nadeem and Jason Holder picked two wickets each while Rashid Khan took one wicket. Natarajan was costly tonight after leaking 38 runs in four overs and was wicketless.
Warner – Saha complete 10 wicket victory for SRH
After a good effort by SRH bowlers, it was the turn of the opening batters to chase 150 runs. David Warner for SRH achieved a unique feat in the final group stage match in IPL 2020 as he completed 500 runs in the tournament. This makes him the first batsman with 6 scores of more than 500 plus runs in IPL history.
Wriddhiman Saha and skipper Warner played attacking shots as MI bowling had no answers for the in-form duo. The pair brought up their respective half-centuries in the run-chase and completely dominated the match. Saha made 57 from 41 balls with 7 fours and a six while Warner made 73 from 50 deliveries. He hit 8 fours and a six in the innings.
The pair first bought up the fifty run stand within the powerplay and later on the 100 run partnership in the 12th over. They went on to complete the run chase without any difficulty in the 18th over. As a result of which SRH defeated MI comprehensively by 10 wickets and booked a spot in the playoffs of the tournament.
With this result, KKR have been knocked out of IPL 2020 even though having the same number of points as RCB and SRH. The three teams have 7 wins and 7 losses in the tournament but RCB and SRH edge further with a better net run rate. MI finished in the top spot with 18 points and 9 wins out of 14. MI will now play Delhi Capitals in the first qualifier while Bangalore and Hyderabad will faceoff in the eliminator on 6th November.
