IPL 2020: ‘There is only one Thala’, says KL Rahul on fans comparison with MS Dhoni

Sunday night’s double super over win over Mumbai Indians (MI) meant Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) still eligible for qualifying in the playoffs. KL Rahul played another stand-out inning and added 73 runs to his run-tally.  But it was Rahul’s wicketkeeping performance in the tied match that made people talking.

He was the man behind the wickets for KXIP and played an important role during the Super Over to run-out Quinton de Kock. MI required 2 runs on the final ball and KL Rahul’s diving run-out meant another super over in the match with the scores leveled.

Even though his brilliant performance with the bat, KXIP are in the 6th spot in the points table and have won just the three games out of nine. KXIP have lost to close games in the tournament and at times luck hasn’t been on their side.

Rahul responds to ‘Thala’ comparisons

After the game, Rahul captioned a photo and wrote, ‘a night to remember’ after super over victory over Mumbai Indians in Dream11 IPL 2020.

A fan replied to Rahul’s post mentioning him as his ‘Thala’ the popular word used for MS Dhoni meaning leader. Rahul replied to the fan saying that there is only one ‘Thala’ and everyone knows who he is.

KL Rahul is the leading run-getter in IPL 2020 with 525 runs to his name in the tournament so far. He is also the first batsman to have scored 500 plus runs in three consecutive seasons of the tournament.

KXIP are still alive for the playoff of the tournament but have a mammoth task of winning every game in the tournament. KXIP takes on Delhi Capitals on Tuesday at the Dubai International Stadium.
