Table-toppers Mumbai Indians were crushed by Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 wickets in the last league game of the season at Sharjah last night. Put in to bat first, MI were able to put 149 on the board thanks to some late fireworks from Keiron Pollard. But it was nowhere near enough as SRH chased down the total with 10 wickets and 17 balls in hand riding on half-centuries from openers David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha.

MI made some big changes to their line-up as they rested their key pacers Japit Bumrah and Trent Boult. But the move backfired as they were not able to even put a dent on SRH’s batting order.

Losing wickets at the top didn’t help

Mumbai Indians

MI skipper Rohit Sharma hailed the disastrous game as their “worst performance of the season”. He urged the side to put the beating behind them and prepare for the big game, the first qualifier.

Not the day we want to remember. Probably the worst performance of the season for us. We wanted to try a few things but unfortunately, it didn’t go our way. Losing wickets at the top doesn’t help,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

If you take wickets in the Powerplay, even if there is dew, it can put pressure on them. It is a funny format.

The Mumbai opener shares that they are expecting a good challenge from the young Delhi Capitals side. Rohit points out that in a league of IPL’s standard one can move ahead and keep correcting the mistakes.

It’s always nice to forget was has happened, and focus on the present. You keep doing well. I know you want to remember those two wins against DC but you have to stay in the present and keep doing the small things and keep ticking the boxes. They (Delhi) are a good side, so it will be a good challenge to face them. You want to leave this performance behind as quickly as possible. We’ll get back to the drawing board and figure things out.

Rohit’s side faces DC in the first qualifier on Thursday at Dubai.
