“It’s quite simple–it’s tight”: Lando Norris believes Alfa Romeo are better placed than McLaren

For the McLaren F1 Racing Team, the current all-new season of Formula 1 2022 has not been a smooth road at all. Although the Woking-based team had improved vastly in 2021 as they competed with Ferrari for the third place in the Constructors’ Championship with brilliant results like the 1-2 finish in Monza, their performance has been upsetting this year. And now, their driver Lando Norris reviews his team’s position with respect to their current rivals.

British F1 prodigy Lando Norris is currently in his fourth year in Formula 1, and throughout this time, he has been a McLaren driver. Thus, he knows the workings of his team, and is the perfect person to assess their position in this current run for the Championship title.

In Lando Norris’ opinion, McLaren is underperforming this year to a frightful extent. He thinks, currently, their position is way behind Mercedes although the Stuttgart-based team is already facing speed-related problems from their W13. And in a shocking revelation, Lando Norris also said he thinks McLaren is behind Alfa Romeo as of now.

McLaren is the second-most successful team in the history of Formula 1, just behind Scuderia Ferrari. Being a part of such a historic team has been an honour and for Lando Norris. But the Briton is currently of the opinion that their McLaren MCL36 lacks packs this season, and they are currently behind a lot of opponents like Mercedes and Alfa Romeo, when it comes to performance.

McLaren started their season with no points to their name as their two drivers stood 14th and 15th in the Main Race. In Jeddah, Australia, and Imola, Norris managed to improve with a P7, P5, and finally a podium with P3. Yet, they fell to the back of the grid once more in the most recent race in Miami. Although Norris did qualify within the top 10 on Saturday, his race was ruined after a crash with Pierre Gasly.

Commenting on McLaren’s position amidst the other teams right now, Lando Norris said, “I think we are behind Mercedes. We are also behind Alfa Romeo but are well in the running with Alpine and AlphaTauri. Haas are somewhere in that region as well. So I think it’s quite simple – it’s tight.”
