Actor J.K. Simmons has often wowed audiences with his performances in films, television, and stage plays. On Tuesday, the 71-year-old once again stole the show following a viral interaction with Spider-Man at Citi Field during the game between the New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds.
Simmons is well known for playing the character, J. Jonah Jameson, aka JJJ, in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). For those who do not know him, Jameson is the head editor of “The Daily Bugle“, a fictional tabloid in New York City.
This character has a distaste for Spider-Man. He has often led campaigns against the fictional superhero and has even called him a “menace” in the movies. Simmons’ portrayal of this character has earned him widespread fame and recognition.
On Tuesday, the American actor was seen at Citi Field. Simmons actually is a diehard fan of the Detroit Tigers. He threw the ceremonial first pitch for the Tigers on April 6, 2015, for Opening Day, and played the role of the Tigers’ manager in the 1999 movie, For Love of the Game.
However, this time, he would don the Mets’ colors and attend their game against the Reds on Tuesday. As the camera panned towards him, he turned around and saw Spider-Man. A person cosplaying the iconic hero was seen holding The Daily Bugle.
The interaction between the duo would go viral. The MLB would share this on its official X account. This post has over 2.5 million views and 85k likes. Check it out below:

Despite J.K. Simmons’ support, Mets suffer another loss
While J.K. Simmons is a huge Detroit Tigers fan, he kept them aside on Tuesday and rooted for the New York Mets while wearing their uniform and a cap at CitiField. However, Simmons’ support was not enough as the Mets suffered another loss.

The 2026 season has not been a pleasant one for the Queens-based side so far. In April, the team suffered a huge slump and lost 12 games in a row. This was their longest losing run since 2002.
While the team did break out of this and had a few wins, they have once again embarked on a losing run. On Tuesday, they lost 7-2 against the Cincinnati Reds for a second straight game.
Before this, they got swept by the Miami Marlins. In the 3-game series against their National League East division rivals, the Mets dropped 3 games in a row. The Marlins outscored them 10-2 over the course of the weekend.
They had also lost 2 games out of the 3 against the Washington Nationals. They have just 1 win from their last 8 games. This comes after a 3-game winning streak, which saw them stun the New York Yankees in the rivalry series. They had even swept the Tigers in a 3-game set.
FINAL SCORE:

Reds: 7
Mets: 2
Ugh.
With this loss, the pressure has mounted once again on the shoulders of manager Carlos Mendoza. The team is 22-33 and will suffer a 6th successive defeat if they do not get a positive result on Wednesday. After the game on Wednesday, the team will once again face the Marlins in a 3-game series.
