Jacoby Brissett has been in the NFL long enough to allow criticism bother him. On the day, he received a pay raise from the Arizona Cardinals, Brissett made it clear that the outside noise has done little to affect his aspiration of carrying on as a starting quarterback in the league.

Brissett signed with the Cardinals ahead of the 2025 season. After Kyler Murray picked up a season-ending injury, Brissett assumed the signal calling duty.

Brissett ended his first season in Arizona with an 1-11 record. After the season ended, the veteran under center remained one of the lowest earning starting quarterbacks in the league. So, he asked the Cardinals to give him a long-term contract.

But the Cardinals did not want to listen. Brissett took matters into his own hands by skipping the OTAs and minicamp. Meanwhile, the Cardinals parted ways with Murray, signed free agent Gardner Minshew and drafted former Georgia and Miami quarterback Carson Beck.

The addition of Minshew and Beck complicated matters for Brissett. However, the Cardinals eventually decided to entertain his demands. On Sunday, Jacoby Brissett penned a one year contract worth $15 million.

When asked about whether the offseason criticism about his performance and attitude has bothered him, Brissett gave a very nonchalant answer.

I could care less… The deal got done.

How much Jacoby Brissett will earn from his new Cardinals contract?

Brissett signing a new deal doesn’t come as a surprise. New Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur hinted not some long ago that talks about an extension was taking shape behind the curtains.

While some are saying that it’s a reworked contract, but in reality it is a brand new contract. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brissett will collect $15.5 in base salary for the 2026 season. He can earn up to $21 million with incentives. That is a significant jump for Brissett who was slated to earn just $4.5 million.

That being said, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Brissett will enter free agency once his contract ends after the 2026 season. Only Brissett has the power to avoid that fate. Solid performances or even a playoff appearance may help his cause. But then again, experts don’t see that happening. In fact, most view the Cardinals as the punching bag of the league.

Before that, Brissett needs to earn his spot on the starting roster. Minshew and Beck will give him tough competition. To make matters worse, he is behind both due to missing minicamp and OTAs. First and foremost, LaFleur has to get Brissett up to speed. If he somehow manages to come out on top, only then he will become the starter.

The Patriots drafted Brissett 91st overall in 2016. He won a Super Bowl ring before bouncing around the league with the Colts, Browns, Commanders, and Patriots for a second time.

In 2025, the Cardinals signed Brissett on a two year deal worth up to $12.5 million. He played 12 games, completed 315 passes for 3366 yards, 23 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.
