The Cincinnati Bengals are off to a shaky start, losing all three of their opening games. Even though quarterback Joe Burrow was still trying to find his feet in the first two, he finally displayed a glimpse of his previous self against the Commanders.

The Bengals lost, but there were lots to celebrate offensively. Burrow threw three touchdowns while completing more than 300 yards for the first time this season and has yet to throw an interception.

These may look great as personal achievements, but football is a team sport, and being the starting quarterback of the team, Joe Burrow needs to do more than just complete passes. The Pro Bowl shot caller must take charge as one of the leaders in the locker room.

Wide receiver and longtime teammate Ja’Marr Chase was asked to define Burrow’s leadership skills. In response, Chase only had positive words to offer.

Joe has always been a leader to me. I’ve never really seen him say extra, like out of the ordinary, to get us going. He’s pretty much himself.

Ja’Marr Chase said as per CLNS Media

When asked about whether he would want Burrow to be a bit more vocal in the dressing room, Chase added,

I don’t know, but I wouldn’t mind it though.

Ja’Marr Chase candidly replied

Joe Burrow prefers to lead by example

The 27-year-old became the savior of the Bengals when they drafted him in 2020. A year before that, they went 0-3 and missed out on the playoffs. However, Burrow led the Bengals to consecutive AFC title games (2021 and 2022) and played in a Super Bowl for the first time since 1988.

However, playoffs are the least of his concerns at the moment. Burrow aims to take one game at a time, leading by example.

I’m usually a lead-by-example kind of guy. But I think I can pick my spots to say some more things. I’ll find those spots this week.

The Bengals need to sort themselves up quickly to face their former quarterback Andy Dalton, who threw 204 touchdowns during his time in Cincy. Dalton, now the QB of the Carolina Panthers, led them to their first win of the season by beating the Las Vegas Raiders.

Burrow and the Bengals are the overwhelming favorites to secure a much-required win. They are expected to wrap up the game with at least a field goal but less than a touchdown (currently -4.5). The game has an over/under of 47 points.
