In Short
  • Jannik Sinner won his third-round match at the Madrid Open against Elmer Moller with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
  • During a post-match interview, Sinner clarified a mix-up between language learning app Babbel and dating app Bumble.
  • Sinner is currently dating Danish supermodel Laila Hasanovic and is on a 24-match winning streak in Masters 1000 tournaments.

April 26th was a typical day on tennis court for Jannik Sinner. He did not face much competition from his third-round Madrid Open opponent, Elmer Moller, winning quickly with a 6-2, 6-3 scoreline.

But there was an unexpected moment during the on-court interview that drew laughter from the crowd. Sinner is working on his Spanish and was asked about how he is learning the language.

No, it’s not good. Not good yet, but my goal is to speak Spanish in one year, so I try to learn. I have an Argentinian physio also, you know, which helps for sure. I understand a little bit, but I cannot speak yet.

He was then asked if he had been using a language learning app, to which Sinner named a couple of apps.

No, I still need to find out… Duolingo, there’s also one called Babbel. No? So, let’s see.

The interviewer, however, mistakenly identified Babbel for Bumble, the dating app, telling him, “No, Bumble is a dating app”. And to this, Sinner was quick to clarify what he actually meant.

No. Babbel! Anyway, it’s not the dating app. I don’t need a dating app.

At present, Sinner is dating Danish supermodel Laila Hasanovic and is in a relationship with her since mid-2025. Hasanovic was also in his box during the Monte-Carlo Masters final, watching him defeat his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz to win the second clay-court title of his career. As per reports, both Sinner and Hasanovic live in the La Condamine district of The Principality.

Prior to his Monte Carlo victory, Sinner completed the Sunshine Double, becoming the eighth man to achieve this feat. His win in Monte Carlo made him the second man, after Novak Djokovic, to win the first three Masters 1000 titles of the season.

In the ongoing event, Sinner will next be facing Cameron Norrie, who knocked out Thiago Agustin Tirante in the previous round. The four-time Grand Slam champion will be meeting the Brit for the first time in his career.

Jannik Sinner on his consecutive Masters 1000 wins

Jannik Sinner is on a 24-match winning streak in the Masters 1000 tournaments. His latest win helped him surpass Rafael Nadal‘s record of 23 match wins, and at the moment, he is behind only Roger Federer (29) and Novak Djokovic (31). But Sinner, who is now the fourth man after the Big 3 to win four consecutive Masters 1000 titles, is focusing on his matches instead of the stats.

I don’t think about it much, to be honest. I’ve always said, and I’ll continue to say, that I can’t compare myself to names like Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer. They accomplished a lot in their careers; there are different levels. I’m happy to play as many matches as possible, but what they did was something else entirely. I try to give everything I have, 100%, in every match. If I win, great, and if not, I try my best, and I don’t regret anything.

Jannik Sinner said at the press conference

If Sinner wins his fourth-round match, he will schedule his quarterfinal match against Rafa Jodar or Vit Kopriva. Sinner has reached the fourth round of the Madrid Open for the third time, and it’s the only Masters 1000 event where he has not yet played the semifinals.

The last time he lost a match at this level was in the third round of the 2025 Shanghai Masters, where cramps forced him to hand the walkover to Tallon Griekspoor. Last year on clay swing, the 24-year-old reached the finals of the Italian Open and the French Open, losing both to Carlos Alcaraz.
