In Week 4, the Atlanta Falcons won against the New Orleans Saints. But crucially, star tight end Kyle Pitts ended up without a single catch. With the offense spread to other players, reporters asked head coach Raheem Morris about that. To that, he suggested ‘stats are for losers’ and it does not matter to him. This came to the attention of retired NFL star Jason Kelce.
The now ESPN analyst brought up the discussion on his podcast, New Heights. When talking to younger brother Travis Kelce, he explained his understanding;
The former Philadelphia Eagles center clarified that stats to do not equate to wins. It is just for the ‘people with four eyes’ to brag about.

Kyle Pitts, not having one catch to show, did not adversely affect the end result. At the end, the Atlanta Falcons won. Jason Kelce is of the same opinion that if points are the differentiating factor in wins and losses, stats bear no weight.
The six-time All-Pro was adamant that stats have no place when all that matters is whether the ball is in the hands of a player in the end zone. Even for those on defense, the only focus is to stop the opposition from scoring points.
Travis Kelce joins brother Jason Kelce to admonish stat mongers
Listening to his older brother rant about those focusing on stats, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce did not hold back. He gave his version as well.
The younger Kelce though did add that Kyle Pitts should be utilized more. As he happens to be their best offensive weapon.
To this, his older brother agreed and suggested that the Atlanta Falcons should find ways to get the ball into Pitts’ hands. Maybe then Kyle Pitts’ stat sheet will be good enough to help the stat mongers be happy.
But at the end of the day, they both agreed that all that matters is winning. Travis Kelce himself talked about it when his numbers were not showing up. The only significance of stats to them was what the scoreboard shows. Everything else is not important while on the field.
