Jaylen Brown’s Blockbuster Trade From Celtics Shocked Charles Barkley: “76ers Got Away With Murder”

When Shams Charania broke the news of the Boston Celtics trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, even the die-hard fans of the latter were left stunned.
They could not believe that they were getting a superstar in his prime in exchange for what is essentially peanuts in today’s NBA. Not long ago, the New York Knicks sent five first-round picks to the Brooklyn Nets for Mikal Bridges.
In comparison, the 76ers sent two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and veteran forward Paul George to Boston. Aside from the draft compensation, what angered Boston fans was that they were getting a 35-year-old who has not been able to stay on the court over the last few years.
Either his health or the recent suspension for violating the NBA’s substance abuse policy, George has not been able to give his best. And now, Celtics fans feared that their team was going to face the short end of that stick.
On the other hand, Sixers fans were ecstatic that their post-Daryl Morey era was starting with news that would make anyone happy. Getting a healthy and conditioned 29-year-old in place of an oft-injured veteran was a blessing.
This can’t be a true story. There’s so much fake stuff on the internet. Now I’m like, ‘No, they didn’t trade him to the Sixers… They gave up Paul George and some draft picks.’ I said, ‘The Sixers just got away with murder, man.’

As someone who was once drafted by this franchise, he could not believe it when this trade went down. His reaction indicates that he knows how lucky his former team is to land a superstar who is not just in his prime, but also motivated to prove his doubters wrong.
Charles Barkley feels Jaylen Brown should be mad at Celtics and the league
For weeks, and even up until now, the narrative surrounding Jaylen Brown has been that of a player who may have struggled to fit in with the Boston Celtics.

The trade itself made it clear that the franchise preferred Jayson Tatum rather than him. That, according to Charles Barkley, should be all the motivation the California Golden Bear needs.
If this doesn’t motivate you as Jaylen Brown, you’re not a competitor. This would p**s me off so bad! Because not only did you trade me after I had probably my best seasons, you got to play against me 4 or 5 times a year and the playoffs.

In the past, the round mound of rebound believed that the negative discourse surrounding Tatum and Brown during the 2024 Paris Olympics would fuel them to prove their critics wrong. But Tatum’s injury and subsequent retooling of the squad did not help that happen.

In this case, Brown was solely painted as the primary cause of concern in Boston. That is why Charles Barkley believes that the five-time All-Star should be chomping at the bit to prove his former team wrong.
Of late, former and current players have noticed how a possible smear campaign has been initiated against Jaylen Brown. The use of analytics to undermine him and all the question marks about his outspoken nature should add to his motivation.
Stephen A. Smith talks about facing the ire of fans amidst Jaylen Brown discourse
Well before any conversations came out that the Celtics wanted to move on from Jaylen Brown, Stephen A. Smith had revealed that there were some rumblings about the 6’6″ star’s character and how he presented himself.
It was not as if he were like other players who have faced the long arm of the law. Rather, his outspoken nature and his opinions did not sit well with his team, its top brass, and the owners.
Do I still need to state my sources?… I talked about the feeling that existed about Jaylen Brown… I also said that ain’t fair… I stated a fact, which has been proven… I don’t feel these negative things about him, others did. I’ve been the one defending him… But that’s not what people want to do.
Stephen A. Smith said on his namesake show
The 58-year-old believes that he has faced the brunt of fans, even though this entire discourse had nothing to do with him. He was merely pointing out what the Celtics and their top brass felt about Brown.

Instead, he is the one who has been criticized for apparently helping the franchise paint the 2024 Finals MVP in a bad light. Smith insists he was merely doing his job as a journalist, but ended up getting flamed on every occasion.
