Jaylen Brown spent his entire career with the Boston Celtics before moving to the Philadelphia 76ers. Drafted by the Celtics as the number three pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Brown developed from a young prospect to one of the best players in the league in Boston.
He spent 10 seasons in Boston and became a huge fan favorite. He led them to five Eastern Conference Finals and two NBA Finals during his stint. But his biggest moment in Boston came in the 2023-24 campaign when he played a vital role in their championship run. His performances earned him Finals MVP honors.
The 29-year-old is coming off his best individual campaign last season. With Jayson Tatum missing most of the campaign due to a long-term injury, Brown carried the Celtics to a second-place finish in the Eastern Conference standings and finished at sixth place in the MVP race.
Despite his incredible season, Brown was traded to the 76ers in the summer after the 2025-26 campaign. The move left even Brown surprised. The forward never requested a trade and even mentioned that he wished he could play for the Celtics for 10 more years if it were up to him. Unfortunately, the Celtics front office had other ideas.
Brown has already featured for the 76ers in their first two preseason games. However, the next two games have gotten everyone excited, as Brown will be facing his former team.
During his Twitch livestream, the new 76ers star compared his return to Boston to running into an ex-girlfriend in public.
It’s like you running into your ex out in public. Like, ‘Damn, we used to go together.’ And you just look at them and be like, ‘Dang.’ You just gotta go about your business. It is what it is, man. But no, I’m super excited.

Excitement surrounds the 76ers ahead of the new season after their summer. Before they face the New York Knicks on opening night, Brown will face the Celtics twice in preseason over the next few days.

The 76ers front office has put together the most dominant team in the NBA in the offseason. Following the trade for Jaylen Brown, the 76ers went on to sign LeBron James on a two-year deal in free agency. With Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Brown and James on the roster, the pressure to deliver a championship is higher than ever.
During his time with the Celtics, Brown formed one of the league’s most fearsome duos with Jayson Tatum. The duo was as lethal as it gets, as they were a force to reckon with on both ends of the floor.
Brown’s departure was a shock to Tatum as well. Tatum shared a heartfelt goodbye to Brown after they spent nine seasons together in Boston. While there is a lot of hype around the two facing off in the upcoming campaign, the NBA will get a preview when Brown and the 76ers visit Boston to face Tatum and the Celtics on Saturday.
A lot of mixed feelings are guaranteed to emerge among the superstar and the entire Celtics fanbase. The two sides will face off once again on October 16 in Philly.
Celtics made it clear that they are Jayson Tatum’s team after trading Jaylen Brown
Despite their impressive performances and results together, one question stayed constant with every passing season ‘Are the Celtics Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown’s team?’ While Tatum was widely viewed as the franchise superstar, Jaylen Brown won the Eastern Conference Finals and Finals MVP when the team won the championship.

The Celtics answered the question when they decided to move on from Brown in the summer as they built their roster around Tatum. Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony weighed in on Paul George, calling the Celtics Tatum’s team.
To me, that wasn’t PG talk. That was the organization putting their stamp on this. You don’t have to answer it, the Celtics already said it. JB was somebody who’s building … who still believes he can be the best player in the league. Paul George did it already. So it’s two different levels and two different perspectives.

But the philosophy behind the move is more about where the two stars are currently in their careers 💯 "JB was somebody who’s building … who still believes he can be the best player in the league.
