Joe Burrow Remains Locked In on Facing Patrick Mahomes Next Season

Both Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes will look to bounce back from a horrible 2025 season, and when they meet in week 14 of the 2026 season, they could be in a good position to qualify for the playoffs.

Joe Burrow hopes to play against the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes in week 14 of the 2026 NFL season under different circumstances compared to last year. That’s because both the Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals ended the 2025 campaign with a 6-11 record.

In the latest schedule release, both the Bengals and the Chiefs drew the 30th toughest lineup of games (based on team records in 2025). They should win more games.

Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Burrow opened up about playing the Chiefs in week 14.

Hopefully we’ll both [the Bengals and the Chiefs] be in different spots than we were last year… We’ll have a good team. They’ll have a good team. That will be leading up to the playoffs, and hopefully we get two shots at them.

Burrow and Mahomes have met five times in the NFL, including the playoffs. Mahomes is 3-2. They last met back in week 2 of the 2024-25 season. Mahomes threw for 151 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions while Burrow recorded 258 yards and 2 TDs. However, the Chiefs won 26-25 thanks to a last-gasp field goal from kicker Harrison Butker.

How was Joe Burrow’s 2025 season?

Burrow gave the Bengals a 2-0 start to the season before picking up a turf toe injury toward the end of the week two game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was severe enough for him to undergo surgery that kept him out of action for more than a month.

The Bengals activated him ahead of their week 13 fixture against the Baltimore Ravens. He threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns in a 32-14 victory. However, the Bengals lost the next two games, including the rematch against the Ravens.

A couple of wins followed before the team ended the year on a losing note against the Cleveland Browns. Burrow went 5-3 from 8 appearances. He recorded 173 completions (66.8%) for 1809 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. The league awarded him with his third Pro Bowl selection.

Joe Burrow’s eyes are on bigger prizes in 2026

Burrow has been one of the best quarterbacks ever since the Bengals drafted him first overall in 2020. He has three Pro Bowl and a couple of Comeback Player of the Year accolades to his name.

Burrow led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance in 2021-22 by defeating Mahomes and the Chiefs. However, they were outplayed by the Los Angeles Rams in the final. That was the last time the Bengals were in the playoffs. Burrow wants to end that drought and win the big one.

You always want to be [an] MVP of the league, Super Bowl MVP, win a Super Bowl. All those things are… I’m not necessarily sure I’d say a seasonal goal of mine would be to do that because you never know how things will play out. As far as winning the MVP, a lot of things have to go right. I’d like to win one eventually, for sure.

The Bengals will always have a chance to win everything with Burrow calling the shots from under center. If the defense can match the tenacity of the offense and stop giving away easy touchdowns, then the Bengals will be a force to be reckoned with.
