John Harbaugh took charge of the New York Giants during a time when New York City’s other big sporting franchise, the Knicks, qualified for the NBA Championship after waiting for more than two decades. Harbaugh is taking notes from the Knicks and has plans to implement them while coaching the Giants, so that they, too, can produce similar results.

The new season is still four months away, and by then, fans will have their new basketball world champions. Some of them will even get the chance to see them live. Unfortunately, Harbaugh can’t. Even though the veteran is among the highest-earning coaches in the league, he can’t seem to acquire a ticket due to high demand.

It’s a tough ticket to get, man. There’s a lot of ‘celebrities. Come on, really? In New York City? Let’s rank it out.

Harbaugh’s not wrong. Celebrities like Spike Lee, Fat Joe, Ben Stiller, Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, and Adam Sandler are fairly regular when the Knicks play at the iconic Madison Square Garden. Moreover, President Donald Trump doesn’t want to miss out on the fun as well.

Harbaugh is a celebrity in his own right. Then again, he is probably at the bottom of the list. Regardless, Knicks fans will be delighted to see Harbaugh at least attend one of the games.

Time is running out, though. The Knicks led the series 2-0 before Monday’s fixture. However, the Spurs, led by Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, clinched a surprise 115-111 victory to stay in the tie. If the Spurs win the championship, it will be their first since 2014.

John Harbaugh is taking inspiration from the Knicks

The Giants appointed Harbaugh, intending to establish a culture similar to the Baltimore Ravens, a team he managed for nearly two decades. The Ravens won a Super Bowl and remained in the hunt for a second almost every year ever since.

The Giants, meanwhile, have struggled to find their identity in the league. After winning a couple of championships during the Eli Manning era, the G-Men plummeted to the bottom of the NFC in the last seven or eight years. A 4-13 record last season was enough to convince the owners to search for a new man at the steering wheel. So, they hired Harbaugh.

Just a few months into his tenure, Harbaugh has a great example in front of him to learn from and to teach his players how to win games.

Watching the way they [the New York Knicks] play, it’s fun because I think it’s instructive. You get an opportunity to see how a team can come together. A team, to me, that’s executing at the highest level — operating together on the same page with everything they do. … It’s like a coach’s dream when you watch a team playing the way they’re playing. It’s a fun team to watch.

Before taking charge of the Ravens in 2008, Harbaugh gained NFL experience in Andy Reid’s coaching setup at the Philadelphia Eagles. In Philly, he worked side by side with Sean McDermott. Indeed, it’s the same individual whom the Buffalo Bills fired last season as their head coach.

Although McDermott has said that he is taking a break from coaching, the 52-year-old was seen at the Giants OTAs on Monday, according to Pat Leonard of New York media.

The purpose of McDermott’s visit to the New Jersey facility is unclear. But given his experience in building a solid defense, it won’t come as a surprise if the Giants add him to Harbaugh’s coaching team.
