Jon Moxley is the current AEW World Champion. He was successful in defending his title against Lance Archer, in Aew’s First Anniversary episode’s Main Event. Moxley, formerly known as the WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose, quit WWE for AEW.
His former Shield teammate from WWE, Roman Reigns, is currently the WWE Universal Champion. With both wrestling superstars being at top of their games, comparisons were inevitable. Prior to his title defense, Moxley spoke to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated on various topics. Comparisons with Roman Reigns was obviously one of them.
But as soon as the topic of Roman Reigns cropped up, Moxley replied that he is not focusing on what his former teammate from WWE is up to. Instead of focusing on what others are up to, Moxley’s complete attention is on himself, and his performance. He said that he has a vision for himself and is busy executing it.
Jon Moxley is currently in his first title reign as the AEW World Champion. He defeated the then Champion, Chris Jericho at AEW Revolution on 29th February 2020. Since then he has been successfully defending the title. The Covid-19 era has undoubtedly hampered his Championship reign.
Two of his title defenses were scrapped at the last moment due to the pandemic. His appearances also had to be scrapped when his wife, a WWE employee, Renee Young, tested positive for the virus.
On the other hand, Roman Reigns had gone on a self-imposed break during the pandemic. He was given a shot at the title only after his return to WWE Summerslam 2020. He won the title defeating “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman. Since his return, he has successfully defended his title against his brother Jey Uso. Their feud, is currently one of the best storylines going on in WWE.
While Moxley’s title reign has been hampered by scrapped up plans, Reigns’ has been working amazingly well. Even if their performances are comparable, their title reigns are surely not!
