Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho was booked for a strange reason during the club’s 2-0 victory over Antalyaspor, in the Turkish League. He was shown a yellow card for placing a laptop in front of a television camera, to protest the referee’s offside decision.

The 61-year-old veteran manager was penalized in the 76th minute of a Turkish SL encounter. Fenerbahce were holding a 1-0 lead over their rivals owing to a goal by Dusan Tadic. Edin Dzeko then struck a goal, which was, however, ruled out for an offside, with VAR officials also upholding referee Cihan Aydin’s decision. This angered Jose Mourinho, who was seen raging on the sidelines for the perceived mis-judgement by the Turkish referee. He took a closer look at the offside decision on his laptop.

The former Chelsea manager, then went a step ahead by putting the laptop, that displayed a still image of the incident in front of a broadcaster’s ground camera, to inform fans of the faulty decision. It was counted as a sign of protest, with Mourinho being handed a yellow card booking. The veteran manager later addressed the issue and asserted that he had reacted calmly. Moreover, he also pointed to the VAR’s error in analyzing the position of the Antalyaspor left-back, which Fenerbahce’s camera had.

Despite Mourinho’s antics, the club registered a win, thanks to a late own goal by Thalisson Kelven. The Portuguese manager, will hope for his side to win the Turkish SL this season, after most recently getting knocked out of the UCL play-offs.

The 61-year-old manager stated that during the international breaks, teams cannot not do much, as most players travel to their respective national teams, leaving managers with few options. Moreover, he stated his problems of making Fenerbahce players understand his playing style, and highlighted the need for more training sessions. The international break, he stated, would further aggravate the situation.

In the international break we do nothing because we don’t have players. We can just keep six or seven players. International break for us is never positive, I would say in fact that it is negative.

Jose Mourinho said at the press conference (H/T: ESPN)

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Portuguese manager had also criticized the international break with a social media post. Moreover, Mourinho also highlighted the pressure that he has felt since joining the Turkish SL in the summer.
