Cam Schlittler once again stole the show against the Boston Red Sox. In Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series, the New York Yankees star dominated the Red Sox, leading to NBA champion Josh Hart sending him a message and claiming that he “owns Boston.”
The matchup on Tuesday was a rematch of the 2025 AL Wild Card Series. Last year, the Yankees lost Game 1 and then came back to win Games 2 and 3 to advance to the next round. Schlittler was the top performer in Game 3 last year, as he threw 8 scoreless innings and picked up 12 strikeouts that day.
This year, Schlittler has been in red-hot form. His 1.95 ERA in 33 starts was the second lowest ERA of any pitcher in the league, only behind Jacob Misiorowski‘s 1.80.
On Tuesday, he continued this form in the postseason. The Massachusetts-born star once again tormented the Red Sox as he threw 117 pitches and picked up 10 strikeouts without giving up a run in 6.1 innings. As he left the mound, the fans at Yankee Stadium gave him a standing ovation.

Offensively, the hero for the Yankees was another Massachusetts-born star, Ben Rice. He hit 2 home runs, including a grand slam in the 8th inning, which helped them claim a 9-0 win.

Josh Hart, who is a fan of the Yankees, was once again left stunned with the performance of Schlittler. The New York Knicks star is also highly active on social media.
Following this performance from Schlittler, he took to his X account and dropped another message to the Yankees ace. In a 5-word message, he claimed that the right-handed pitcher “owns Boston“, highlightning his dominance against the Red Sox.

Schlitter did create history after his showing in Game 1. He is the first Yankees pitcher with multiple postseason outings of 10 strikeouts and 0 runs. Both of them have come against the Red Sox.

In 6 career starts against them, Schlittler has an ERA of 0.47 in 38 2/3 innings and 49 strikeouts. He certainly has the number of his rivals so far in his career.
Cam Schlittler reacts to MVP chants by Yankees fans after strong performance against Red Sox
Cam Schlittler is currently the hot favorite to win the American League Cy Young Award. How about the MVP Award though? After his incredible performance in Game 1, fans threw in MVP chants at him as he walked off the mound. In the press conference, the pitcher made his feelings known.

In MLB history, 25 pitchers have won the MVP award. The last traditional pitcher to win this honor was Clayton Kershaw in 2014, when he went 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA and 239 strikeouts.
Schlitter went 14-6 with a 1.95 ERA and 239 strikeouts in the regular season. With his performance on Monday, he certainly has made a case for it.
When asked about this, the 25-year-old claimed that he does not consider himself a MVP but admitted it felt good to hear that from the fans.
We’ve already got an MVP (Aaron Judge) in this locker room. He’s won three of them. If he were in there this whole season he’d probably have it … I wouldn’t say I am an MVP, but it’s good to embrace that from the fans.
Cam Schlittler told the reporters as per SNY

The pressure now is on the Red Sox to deliever. Since the league adapated the best-of-three Wild Card format (excluding 2020), only one team has come back from 1-0 down to go through.
It was the Yankees against the Red Sox last year. The Boston-based side will need to pull off another comeback against their rivals if they were to play in the American League Division Series (ALDS) this season.
