The 2026 season has been a rough one for the New York Mets. On Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles, the Mets fans were left frustrated once again after Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Bo Bichette all failed to catch a routine fly ball, resulting in a double.

The incident took place early in the game. With the Orioles leading 1-0 in the top of the 2nd inning, Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit a fly ball to shallow left field.

Soto, Bichette, and Lindor all raced down to cover the ball. Soto came running from left field, Bichette tracked back from 3rd base, and Lindor came from across shortstop. However, none of them made a call.

As the ball came closer, Bichette ducked down, hoping for Soto to complete the catch behind him. Soto thought Bichette had it covered and did not extend his glove. Meanwhile, Lindor was a bit away from the ball.

Thus, none of them were able to make the play and complete the catch. Soto then grabbed the ball and threw it to second base.

Orioles broadcaster Kevin Brown ended up taking a shot at the Mets’ payroll after this.

About $1B worth of Mets out in left field, and none of them could pick it up.

This did prove costly for the Mets. After Samuel Basallo grounded out for the first out, Jeremiah Jackson hit a 2-run home run to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Orioles ended up winning 7-1 and completed the sweep of the Mets. The loss left the already eliminated Mets with a 69-83 record.

On X, several users slammed the trio of Juan Soto, Bo Bichette, and Francisco Lindor. Many argued that it was Soto’s ball to catch. Meanwhile, one user wrote, “Sums up the Mets season,” while making their feelings known.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

For Soto and the Mets, this is a 4th successive defeat and a 5th loss in their last 6 games. Up next for them is a 4-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. While the Mets can no longer qualify for the postseason, they could make things difficult for their division rivals in the upcoming series.

WFAN Sportscaster rips Juan Soto, calls him “overrated”

Juan Soto has often found himself under criticism following his huge move to the New York Mets in December 2024. Recently, a WFAN sportscaster ripped him and called him “overrated” after the Queens-based side missed the playoffs for a second straight year.

Individually, Soto has had a decent campaign this season. After missing some games this season due to injuries, he has batted with a .271 average and has 25 home runs and 61 RBIs to his name.

Despite this, WFAN sportscaster Joe Benigno does not appear to be a fan of his. In a recent WFAN podcast, he blasted the Dominican international and claimed he had had enough of people comparing him to Hall of Famer Ted Williams.

I’m putting it right out there, and you can say whatever you want, this guy (Pete Alonso) is having a much better year than the overrated Juan Soto and if I hear again that this guy is Ted Williams, I’m gonna vomit.

Joe Benigno said regarding Juan Soto

He also expressed that Soto never had a big hit and would love to see someone else in a big spot than him.

Soto has had some big moments in his career. He was one of the top stars during the Washington Nationals’ 2019 World Series triumph. He even played a big role in the New York Yankees’ first trip to the Fall Classic since 2009 in 2024.

However, his time with the Mets has been a bit underwhelming. This season will mark a second straight year that he will miss the playoffs, which has sparked some concern among the Mets faithful.
