After long debates and much confusion, Russell Wilson has been announced to start for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their upcoming Week 7 game. The flip side is that Justin Fields, their starting quarterback for the first six games, will now sit on the bench and observe his experienced counterpart take over. Not an easy task for any player worth his salt.
The former Chicago Bears QB was hounded by reporters the moment the news came to light. When asked about his reaction to the benching and his mentality, he gave out quite a mature reply.
This admission indicates the mindset of the star. Not only does he understand that his play was not good enough, but he also knows he has to get better.

One of the most interesting parts of Justin Fields’ time as the starting QB was that he has already amassed almost half of the passing yards from his best seasons at Chicago. That too just in six games as he led his team to four wins.
But he also understands that, as the franchise QB of the Pittsburgh Steelers, people expect him to perform better. Better to not just scrape through games. He knows he has to improve as a passer to unlock their offense. Now he can watch as Russell Wilson does that as the starter.
Justin Fields can learn for the first time in his NFL career
This year is the fourth year Justin Fields has played in the NFL. But in all the time so far, he has been the de facto starter, both for the Chicago Bears and his new team. Many former players, coaches, and analysts feel that young quarterbacks should initially learn behind a veteran. Something Fields has not had the luxury to do so far.
Now he has, that too, to learn not only from a perennial Pro Bowler in Russell Wilson but also from one of the best head coaches in the league. When playing, QBs generally do not observe opponent quarterbacks play the game, as they are focused on listening to their coaches.
This time, he has the chance to learn not just from Wilson but also to study opposing quarterbacks. By analyzing their play, he can hone his skills and be ready when his opportunity arises. The Pittsburgh Steelers have invested in him to be their future. Might as well develop into one.
