Kyron Hudson announced himself on the big stage against the LSU Tigers. The USC Trojans junior wide receiver caught arguably the best catch of the season on opening day.

It all changed in the second quarter. With 4 minutes since switching ends, the Trojans had the ball on 1 & 10. After snapping the ball, Moss launched one, aiming for Kyron Hudson. The pass was slightly higher so that the LSU defensive back would not be able to intercept it. Hudson went for his best Rob Carter Jr. impression and leaped over to make a splendid one-handed catch, lighting a fire under the muted crowd.

Hudson, for the first time in his college career, was named the wide receiver #1 after Brenden Rice followed Williams to the NFL. He had big shoes to fill.

The 6-foot-1 wideout showed his class against the 13th-best team in the country, LSU. His reception from Miller Moss’ pass was the highlight of the game, reminding everyone of Odell Beckham Jr.‘s famous catch against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014.

Despite Hudson’s early gains, LSU kept pace with the Trojans, and their kicker Damian Ramos secured a 31-yard field goal to make the score 20-20 as the referee sounded the 2-minute warning mark.

However, USC got the last laugh. With only 0:08 seconds left on the clock, Moss handed the ball to running back Woody Marks, who transferred from Mississippi State to score a 13-yard touchdown for the Trojans. The game ended 27-20, making it three consecutive opening-day losses for LSU head coach Brian Kelly.

Kyron Hudson finished the game with 5 catches for 83 yards. Miller Moss recorded 27/36 for 378 yards and 1 touchdown, including 2 carries for -8 yards. Woody Marks carried the ball 16 times for 68 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.

As for LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who is now the starter after Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels left for the NFL, recorded 29/38 for 304 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. The Tigers’ best receiver was Kyren Lacy, catching 7 passes for 94 yards and 1 touchdown, while Aaron Anderson had the other. Running back John Emery Jr. carried the ball 10 times for 61 yards.

Up next, USC will welcome Utah State at the Coliseum while LSU hosts the Nicholls State Colonels in the college football‘s second round.
