DeMar DeRozan is amongst a group of free agents who the Los Angeles Lakers could target in free agency.
Los Angeles Lakers fan DeMar DeRozan does not deny interest in joining LeBron James next season as a free agent
For the upcoming season, the primary target with regards to the starting 5 is to find another superstar. Someone who can help distribute the scoring workload from LeBron James who will turn 40 as the year progresses.
One of the notable free agents available happens to be DeMar DeRozan, who revealed his desire to play in the purple and gold. The Chicago Bulls superstar was a guest on FanDuel TV and had quite a few words to say when asked about joining the Los Angeles Lakers.
When I was a kid, everybody knows I'm a Kobe guy at the end of the day. Always been a Kobe guy. Been a Laker fan since day one. You can't never say no about playing home. Especially for playing for historic team like the Lakers. Time will tell. Let's see where the cards fall. Until then, I'll see what happens. We'll see how it plays.DeMar DeRozan said
DeMar DeRozan would love the opportunity to play for his hometown team. It would fulfil his dream of playing for the colors he has rooted in forever since he was a kid.
The 6-time All-Star is in an advantageous position. He is an unrestricted free agent at the exact moment the Los Angeles Lakers need another superstar. Trading for another superstar means giving up precious draft picks. Something the shorthanded Lakers want to avoid as much as possible.
DeRozan has the ability to draw defenders which eventually wears a team down. He pounces on that fatigue in the closing minutes as has been evident from his clutch plays at the end of the game. A trait which LeBron James and his teammates would appreciate come playoff time.
Los Angeles Lakers have limited options to help LeBron James
DeMar DeRozan is not the only superstar available as a free agent. Paul George, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Klay Thompson and Tobias Harris are some of the few free-agent superstars available this summer. The problem with all of them is either injury history or fit. Plus, the first three would want to be alpha dogs, which is not possible with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the lineup.
Another option that has come to the fore is the availability of Donovan Mitchell. He is not a free agent but has also indicated that he might not extend with the Cleveland Cavaliers. That makes him a prime trade candidate for the Lakers as he is an elite scorer who can take over a game at will.
Whoever the Lakers reach out to, should be willing to take the scoring burden despite not being the first choice. Most importantly, be there to dominate games and help them win another title.
