Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton shows his disappointment after only qualifying P5 for the Sprint race in the Sprint Shootout. The Briton believes that lap was the only place the car could’ve produced. Although he says he should have got one or two places more in the shootout before the Saturday Sprint race.

Hamilton will start the sprint race behind the pole McLaren, two Red Bulls, and his teammate George Russell. He believes the night hasn’t really been his, but he always seeks ways to push harder. The Mercedes driver also points out a little mistake he made on the last corner of the Interlagos.

In his post-Sprint Shootout interview, Hamilton admitted that he messed up the lap despite giving his best and finished a couple of places down where he was supposed to be. Hamilton’s only run in SQ3 was ruined by a snap in the last corner of the track, which cost him a tenth and a half.

My last lap wasn’t really that spectacular. I think I probably could’ve been one or two places further forward. But, I gave it my best.”

Hamilton is currently 20 points behind Sergio Perez, who is defending his P2 in the Drivers Championship but will start the Sprint in front of him.

Can Sergio Perez defend his P2 spot in the Drivers Championship against Lewis Hamilton?

Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton is only 20 points away from snatching the P2 from Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. But as Perez said, his teammate Max Verstappen would definitely help him to defend the P2 from Hamilton, which the Dutchman didn’t at this same race last year against Charles Leclerc.

The Mercedes driver is starting Sunday’s race four spots ahead of Perez in P9. The P5 Hamilton would have his best opportunity to reduce that point deficit as much as possible. However, even after Verstappen’s brilliant form, the Mexican struggles to find his consistent pace. With three races still left before the season ends, Hamilton has his best chance to do it this weekend in Brazil only.

Although recently reported, Hamilton does not really care if he achieves the P2 in the Championship or not. The P2 in the Constructors is more important for the team, according to the Briton.
