When a player of Myles Garrett’s caliber is traded to another team, it sends alarm bells ringing for not only the rival teams in the division but also for the teams in the conference. For example, reporters asked Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell to share his opinion on the Rams trading for the reigning defensive player of the year.
The Lions are not in the same division as the Rams. Campbell’s team is part of the NFC North. Sure, they will not face the Rams twice like the 49ers, Seahawks, or the Cardinals, but that doesn’t mean they won’t come across the LA franchise at all. There’s a great chance of the two teams meeting in the playoffs. But before that, both need to survive their respective divisions.
For now, Campbell believes the Rams are the team to beat, as they have a player like Garrett on the roster.
Good for them. They’ve won it now, right?… [Myles Garrett is] a hell of a player. Verse is a hell of a player… but that was what they felt like they needed to do and good for them.

The Rams hosted the Lions in Week 15 last year. Detroit quarterback Jared Goff threw 25 completions from 41 attempts for 338 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught 13 passes for 164 yards and scored 2 touchdowns, while Jameson Williams caught 7 passes for 134 yards and scored one TD.
However, the Rams fought back hard. Quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was traded to the Rams by the Lions, in which Goff went the other way in 2021, completed 24 passes for 368 yards, threw 2 touchdowns, and one interception. Running back Kyren Williams rushed 15 times for 78 yards and scored a couple of touchdowns, while RB2 Blake Corum added one on 11 carries. Wide receiver Puka Nacua caught 9 passes for 181 yards, but it was tight end Colby Parkinson who scored two receiving TDs. The Rams won 41-34.
The Lions ended the year with a 9-8 record, finishing at the bottom of the North. The Rams went 12-5, defeated the Panthers and the Bears in the playoffs. In the NFC Championship game, they lost to the Seahawks, who eventually won the Super Bowl.
According to FOX Sports metrics, the Rams, with +550, have the best odds of winning Super Bowl LXI. The Lions are the eighth favorites with +1800 behind the Ravens, Bills, Seahawks, Chiefs, Patriots, Chargers, and 49ers.
Dallas Cowboys HC on the latest trades involving Myles Garrett and AJ Brown
Garrett wasn’t the only big name to move after the June 1 deadline. Super Bowl winner and All-Pro wide receiver AJ Brown was traded to the New England Patriots by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brian Schottenheimer, the head coach of the Eagles’ NFC East rivals, the Cowboys, was asked to share his thoughts about both the Garrett and Brown trades.
It’s a competitive business. Everyone is trying to get their roster right. Each roster is different. Each roster is unique to themselves. We feel like we’ve had an incredible offseason of additions.

Schottenheimer is no stranger to being part of a league-altering trade. Even before he took charge of his first game as the Cowboys’ head coach in 2025, owner of the Dallas franchise, Jerry Jones, traded away All-Pro edge Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. In Parsons’ absence, the Cowboys’ defense allowed a staggering 511 points in 17 games. They finished with a 6-11 record and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
