Speed thrills but kills. For New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers, a casual drive with NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. turned out to be less thrilling and more of a scary experience. A lesser-known fact about Nabers is that he is a big fan of NASCAR. His trip to the Atlanta Motor Speedway was all about him meeting one of the finest drivers, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
It was not just another drive around. Nabers and Earnhardt Jr. were able to talk about their careers and their upbringing through high school and college. The wideout entered the NFL after establishing himself as the all-time leader of the LSU Tigers in terms of receiving yards.
In his debut year, he finished with 1,204 yards and 7 touchdowns, remarkable stats, considering he achieved this feat with the New York Giants, who struggled for the whole year due to quarterback issues. Fortunately for Nabers, year two could be better because the team has revamped its quarterback room.
Year 1 was good for Nabers, but not nearly as good as it was for his LSU teammate, Jayden Daniels. The quarterback for the Washington Commanders went on to have a phenomenal rookie season. Daniels led his team to the NFC Championship game, coming within one win’s range of making it to a Super Bowl.
When we were at LSU, we always wanted to make it to where we at now. So, it’s like just because we were where we at now doesn’t mean we change that, change our relationship. We going to talk trash to each other. But it’s also a family talk, trash. Like we understand the assignment between those lines. It’s a different way we act.
Malik Nabers said during the drive
The start of the drive was pleasant for Nabers, but as both athletes got comfortable with one another, the NASCAR driver had a surprise for the receiver. He casually began to bump up the speed of the car, reaching peaks of 120-140 mph. This prompted Nabers to hold on tightly to the car’s grill, and he made a quick prayer, hoping to make it out of the car in one piece!

Fortunately for him, he was in great hands. His NASCAR friend revealed that the average speed that cars go up to during races exceeds 180 mph. That answer made Nabers feel glad that he is a football player and not a NASCAR driver!
Malik Nabers and Jayden Daniels continue to root for one another
No matter which team they find themselves on as NFL professionals, Nabers and Daniels continue to be on excellent terms. Things have changed significantly, as the duo frequently talk trash to one another. However, that comes from a good place because they want to face the best version of one another, and are true competitors at heart.

For now, Daniels has bested Nabers in the NFL. However, things might change this season. With a Super Bowl-winning veteran in Russell Wilson as their quarterback and a potential starter in Jaxson Dart, things are looking up for Nabers and the Giants.
If he managed to finish with a 1,000-receiving-yard season in a year where he had Tommy DeVito and Daniel Jones as his primary quarterbacks, then just imagine how good Nabers will be with talented and proven quarterbacks.
Year 2 will be exciting for both Daniels and Nabers. It will be interesting to see if they can consistently be as great as they were in their rookie seasons.
