Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes was reportedly arrested by Spanish police and held in custody, over allegations of stealing a mobile phone at a nightclub in Madrid. He was arrested in the wee hours of 8th September, this year.
Recent reports suggest that the Portuguese midfielder was apprehended and handcuffed by police agents last month, at a sprawling Madrid nightclub named La Rivera. He was then taken to the city’s Arganzuela police station for questioning for alleged theft of a mobile phone, reportedly belonging to an individual who snapped a photo with Nunes in the bathroom. Upon the arrival of the player’s lawyers, he was subsequently released and is now expected to face trial over the incident.
Matheus Nunes had also been charged with pushing a man’s arm, who was persuading the former Wolves star for a picture in the nightclub’s bathroom. The 26-year-old player, unwilling to accept the request, tried to stop the man from taking images, as a result of which his phone fell out of his hand. Nunes is said to have snatched the mobile phone in anger, and refused to return it back to him. Following this incident, the unnamed individual decided to inform the police, who in turn arrested the player.

However, the authenticity of the information is yet to be verified, with certain sources from the National Police in Madrid confirming the arrest. It coincides with Nunes’ visit to Spain, during the September international break.
Matheus Nunes asserts that he can step in for injured Manchester City midfielder Rodri
Manchester City star Matheus Nunes recently stated that he could step in for injured midfielder Rodri. The No. 16 has been ruled out for the rest of the season, and his injury is being seen as a ‘massive loss’ for the reigning EPL champions.
Rodri sustained an injury in his right knee during City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal, ending his season. While Pep Guardiola has described him as ‘irreplaceable’, Matheus Nunes expressed belief that he could make up for the absence of the Spaniard. He highlighted his experience in playing in a double pivot position previously at Sporting CP, and could efficiently handle that role in the City lineup.
Guardiola might now have to opt for other players in the midfield, with veteran stars Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan among options. Apart from these three, promising young full-back Rico Lewis is also an option.
