Matt Fitzpatrick has found his top form once again. On Sunday, he claimed his 2nd RBC Heritage title as he took down Scottie Scheffler in the playoff round. Following his win, the Englishman took a swipe at the American crowd, who threw in Ryder Cup chants at him.

Fitzpatrick seemed to be on his way to victory on Saturday, following a score of 68. In the final round, Scheffler trailed him by 3 shots with 4 holes to play.

The World No.1 then made another late surge. Birdies on holes 16 and 17 saw him card a 4-under 67 score and forced a playoff against Fitzpatrick.

As the tournament headed into a playoff round, chants of “USA” broke out at Harbour Town. The crowd was firmly behind Scheffler as the American searched for his second win of the season following a runner-up finish at The Masters Tournament last week.

Fitzpatrick kept his cool in the playoff round. His 4-iron shot landed just over the bunker. Scheffler, meanwhile, came up a bit short in the playoff round. The 4-time major champion missed out on the title as his opponent drained a birdie putt to clinch his 2nd RBC Heritage title.

This was the second time in his career that Fitzpatrick had defeated an American favorite in a playoff round to win here. In 2023, he edged out Jordan Spieth to claim the title.

In the press conference after his win, he was asked about the “USA” chants that were thrown against him in a non-Ryder Cup year. While the 31-year-old did not find it strange and called the Americans “incredibly patriotic“, he proceeded to take a shot at them.

Americans are incredibly patriotic, and I think that was amazing. I guess the only issue is they just have shorter memories because we won in October.

Fitzpatrick was part of Team Europe that claimed a second successive Ryder Cup win in 2025. He went 2-1-1 in his 4 matches and helped his side emerge as 15-13 winners.

This was also not the first time he had faced these chants this year. During the final round of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, he found himself battling against Cameron Young.

The fans were firmly behind Young as the New Yorker chased a big win. In the end, he finished 1-stroke ahead of Fitzpatrick to claim his second PGA Tour win.

The RBC Heritage is one of the signature events of the PGA Tour. This meant that this event had a whopping $20 milllion purse.

Fitzpatrick, the winner of the event, thus earned the biggest cheque. He picked up $3.6 million, the same amount he received in 2023, following his win.

The golfer is in fine form this year. This was his 2nd win in 3 starts, as he had won the Valspar Championship. With these two wins and a runner-up finish at The Players Championship, he now has 3 top-2 finishes in 4 starts.

Scottie Scheffler, on the other hand, received another runner-up cheque. After finishing 1-shot behind Rory McIlroy last week at The Masters Tournament, he finished second again. He, though, earned a share of $2.16 million.

With no cut at the RBC Heritage, every player went home with some money. Tony Finau, who finished last at 82nd position, got $30,000 from the purse.
