The New York Mets had a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. They lost both of those games by conceding 10 runs in each of them. In the second game, they committed 6 errors. After the game, an MLB insider dropped a huge take regarding them.

The National League East side has had a disappointing campaign so far. After missing the playoffs last year, there were some concerns regarding the team this season.

In the game earlier on Wednesday, the Mets lost 10-3. Starting pitcher Nolan McLean gave up 6 runs through 6 innings. Dansby Swanson recorded 7 RBIs through a 3-home run and a grand slam, which saw the Cubs come back from 0-3 down to win the game.

Hours later, the two teams met again. The hosts went on to suffer another painful outing on the field as some defensive plays cost them the game.

Infielders Mark Vientos, Marcus Semien, Francisco Lindor, and Bo Bichette all made errors. It came in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th inning. At one stage, the game was leveled at 4-4, and a Bichette solo home run had made it a 6-5 game with the Mets trailing by one run.

In the end, Vientos and Semien were charged with 2 errors each. After the Mets made their 5th error, ESPN’s Jesse Rogers tweeted that the 5 errors made by the team were the most by them since September 1, 2014, when they made 6.

Jeff Passan then came in and dropped a huge take. The MLB insider shared a 6-word message and claimed that the whole season had been an error for them.

This whole season is an error.

Swanson, who had 7 RBIs in the first game, drove in 4 runs in the second game as the Cubs won 10-5. A victory on Thursday will see them complete a 4-game sweep of their opponents.

Mets fans threw in chants of Pete Alonso as team had another poor day

The New York Mets are going through another tough phase this season. As the team had a poor day against the Chicago Cubs, fans at Citi Field threw in chants of their former star, Pete Alonso.

The current Baltimore Orioles star was a fan favorite at the Mets. Last season, he became the team’s home run leader by surpassing Darryl Strawberry.

After the team missed the playoffs on the final day, Alonso opted out of his deal once again. This time, the team did not bring him back and turned their attention to other alternatives.

In the 9th inning of the second game, the team was 8-5 down. As Devin Williams took to the mound, huge chants of Pete Alonso rang across the stadium.

A single from Pedro Ramirez and Dansby Swanson saw the Cubs put up 10 runs on the board once again. The Mets have conceded 50 runs in their last 5 games while scoring just 19 runs in reply.

Carlos Mendoza calls the Mets’ 10-5 loss embarrassing

The New York Mets were by far the second-best team against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. After the 10-5 loss, manager Carlos Mendoza called the loss “embarrassing” and shook his head in disappointment.

The team had Sean Manaea as the starting pitcher in this game. He lasted just 3 innings and gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits while throwing 86 pitches. After the game, he criticized himself and claimed it was an “inexcusable” performance from him.

However, Mendoza refused to pin the blame on him. The manager simply claimed that the way they played was unacceptable.

Embarrassing overall. The whole day, two losses, but just the way we play(ed) overall. That last game (was) unacceptable. Obviously, everybody’s pissed, everybody’s frustrated. As simple as that.

Carlos Mendoza said

The Mets are now 34-46 for the season, 12 games behind the .500 mark. They are the only NL East team as of Wednesday to have a negative record.

Their main aim on Thursday would be to stop the 5-game losing run they are on and avoid getting swept by the Cubs. After that, they will turn their attention towards the Philadelphia Phillies once again.
