The New York Mets dropped another game on Tuesday. The National League East side suffered a 12th successive loss as the Minnesota Twins came from behind to beat them 5-3. Following their loss, the Twins trolled them on social media.

The Mets came into this game on the back of a disappointing result against the Chicago Cubs. They were leading 1-0 while heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.

Devin Williams, who joined the team in the 2025 offseason following a struggling year with the New York Yankees, had trouble from the mound again. He gave up the game-tying run as Michael Conforto haunted his former team with a pinch-hit double.

The Cubs then proceeded to walk off with a sacrifice fly from Nico Hoerner in the bottom of the tenth inning. This marked an 11th straight defeat for the Mets, their longest losing streak since 2004.

On Monday, it once again seemed that they would break this barren run. A 3-run home run from Francisco Lindor in the third inning gave them a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, pitcher Nolan McLean was dominating the opposition batters.

The starting pitcher was perfect through the first 5 innings. He gave up his first hit in the top of the 6th inning as Matt Wallner hit a single to left field, ending his perfect game bid.

After recording two outs in this inning, he gave up a 2-run home run to Byron Buxton. He gave up his 3rd run in the 7th inning and ended his day going 6.2 innings and picking up 10 strikeouts.

With the game tied at 3-3 in the 9th inning, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza brought in Devin Williams. The pitcher gave up 2 straight walks, a sacrifice bunt, and a single, which saw the Twins take a 4-3 lead. He then proceeded to give up a bases-loaded walk that extended the visitors’ lead to 5-3.

He failed to record a single out and was replaced by Austin Warren. He then recorded the three outs and got the team out of the jam. The Mets were unable to come back from this and suffered their 12th consecutive defeat.

After the loss, fans on social media once again made fun of the Queens-based side. The Twins joined in and trolled the team with a huge roast. In a post on X, they joked about their opponents’ 12-game losing run with a “dozen” comment.

This is the first time since 2002 that the Mets have lost 12 games in a row. That year, they were 58-57 when the losing streak started. Following this, they were left with a 58-69 record and eventually finished 75-86, bottom of the NL East standings.

With the struggling Kansas City Royals winning on Tuesday, the Mets now have the sole possession of the worst record in the league. At the moment, they are 7-16.

History is not on the side of the Mets following 12th straight loss

The losses just keep on piling for the New York Mets. The 2-time World Series winners were handed their 12th straight loss by the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. History is not on the side of the Mets following this major loss.

The Mets are currently 8.5 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves in the NL East. In MLB history, no team has reached the postseason after losing 12 games in a row in the regular season.

The one positive thing for the Mets is that there are still a lot of games to be played. Last season, the Cleveland Guardians lost 10 games in a row from late June to early July. Despite that, they were able to make a huge comeback and reach the playoffs with an 88-74 record.

Another positive update for the Mets is that Juan Soto will be available on Wednesday. In the absence of the 4-time All-Star, the offense of the team has struggled heavily. With him back in the lineup, the team would be hoping to end this miserable run of form.
