The Kansas City Royals suffered another disappointing day on the field on Monday. The American League Central side lost its 8th successive game. The team later got booed by the fans. Bobby Witt Jr. went on to drop a blunt assessment regarding this.
The Royals, who missed out on the playoffs last season following an 82-80 record, came into this game after getting swept by the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers outscored the Royals 20-6 in the 3-game series, while managing a shutout in the series finale.
Before the showdown against the Yankees, the Royals were swept in a 3-game set by their division rivals, the Detroit Tigers, as well. They thus went 0-6 in the 6-game road trip.
On their return home, it seemed they would finally snap a barren losing run. A solo home run from Jac Caglianone in the bottom of the second inning gave them a 1-0 lead against the Baltimore Orioles.

In the 9th inning, the O’s landed a big blow to the Royals as they tied the game while being down to their last strike. A single from Samuel Basallo leveled it up at 1-1.

The visitors then took the lead in the top of the 11th inning through a single from Dylan Beavers. It was then time for the Royals to shock the Orioles.
With them down to their last strike, Bobby Witt Jr. delivered a single, which saw the Kansas City-based side tie the game at 2-2.

The Orioles broke through again in the 12th inning. Basallo drove in another run through a single to give his side a 3-2 lead. Leody Taveras then blew the game wide open with a grand slam off Alex Lange.

A double from Nick Loftin pulled two runs back for the Royals. However, it was not enough to save them as the Royals went down 7-5 and lost at home again.

The home fans at Kauffman Stadium saw their side suffer an 8th consecutive defeat. They made their voices heard by raining down boos on the team.
After the game, Witt Jr. opened up about the boos. The shortstop did not mince his words and admitted that the team deserved to get booed.
Yeah, it sucks. But if you’re the worst team in baseball, you might deserve to get booed every once in a while. It should motivate us to get better.

As per stats, the Royals did have more hits than the Orioles. The 2-time World Series winners had 14 hits, 8 more than the Orioles, who managed just 6. In the end, the O’s made most of their hits.
With a 7-16 record, Witt Jr. and his team have the worst record in the league. Before this game, they were tied with the New York Mets for the worst record at 7-15 after the National League side suffered its 11th straight defeat on Sunday.
Bobby Witt Jr. admits to being frustrated by being the worst team in baseball
Despite missing the playoffs last season, the Kansas City Royals were expected to be among the favorites to challenge for the division title. Almost a month in, and the team has the worst record in the league. Bobby Witt Jr. admitted to being frustrated with this.

On paper, the Royals have depth in their batting lineup. Vinnie Pasquantino and Maikel Garcia both had impressive runs in the World Baseball Classic (WBC), with the latter being named the MVP of the tournament as Venezuela defeated the USA in the final.
So far, Garcia has batted with a .272 average this year with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs. Pasquantino, on the other hand, has struggled a bit. While he has 2 home runs and 10 RBIs, his batting average has fallen to .149 for the year.
The big concern for the Royals, however, is Witt Jr.’s performance. Though he has a .287 batting average (the best among all his teammates), he has yet to hit a home run.
You look back two months ago, month ago, no one in here would believe we’re technically the worst team in baseball. We believe in each and every one in here. … It’s frustrating.
Bobby Witt Jr. said as per Anne Rogers
The Royals are 7-16.

The 76 runs scored by the Royals in 23 games is the joint 4th worst in the league. Only the Philadelphia Phillies (also 76), the San Francisco Giants (75), and the New York Mets (72) have scored fewer runs than them.
As for pitching, they are ranked 24th when it comes to ERA at 4.56. They will be hoping to avoid a 9th successive loss on Tuesday with a positive performance in the second game of the series against the Orioles.
