Just a day after the return of Juan Soto to the lineup, the New York Mets lost Francisco Lindor. The shortstop was placed on the injured list on Thursday following a left calf strain. However, as per an insider, the team currently has no timeline for his return.

After opening the scoring in the game against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, the 5-time All-Star suffered a strain in his calf. He was later removed from the game.

The Mets later ended up celebrating their first win in over 2 weeks. The National League East side took down the Twins 3-2 to snap a 12-game losing run.

Their celebrations regarding the end of this losing streak did not last long. Reports emerged that Lindor would be out for a while from the team.

On Thursday, the team officially placed him on the 10-day injured list. Ronny Mauricio was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to replace him.

The day Lindor got injured was the day when the team welcomed back Soto. The former New York Yankees star had suffered a right calf strain on April 3 and was placed on the 15-day injured list.

In his absence, the offense of the team struggled. In his return, Soto went 1-for-3 with one walk, while Lindor went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the first inning.

As per MLB insider Anthony DiComo, the Mets do not have a timeline for his return. They also expect his injury to be more serious than the one Soto suffered and believe he will be out for a significant amount of time.

As per the reports from DiComo, this is just the third time in his career that Lindor will be on the injured list. He missed three weeks of action in 2019 with the Cleveland Guardians after straining his right calf.

In 2021, with the Mets, he was sidelined for more than five weeks due to a right oblique strain. The timing of this injury is also a concern for the team.

After starting the season slowly once again, the 4-time Silver Slugger Award winner seemed to be getting back in form. He was 7-for-17 with a home run, a double, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored in the 5 games leading up to his injury. For the season, he has a slash line of .226/.314/.355 in 24 games.

Bo Bichette lifted Mets to series win against Twins following Francisco Lindor’s injury

With Francisco Lindor out of the lineup, the New York Mets needed someone to step up. Bo Bichette was the one who answered the call as his clutch hitting on Thursday lifted his team to a series win against the Minnesota Twins.

In Lindor’s absence, the team had Ronny Mauricio play as the shortstop. There were some eyes on Bichette regarding this position as he played as the shortstop during his time with the Toronto Blue Jays. However, he remained as the 3rd baseman in this game.

After going 1-0 down early on, the Mets found themselves leading the game 7-2 at one stage. Home runs from Brett Baty and Carlos Penge had put them in a comfortable seat in the 4th inning.

The Twins, however, came back from this. A solo home run from Tristan Gray in the 6th inning was followed by a grand slam by Ryan Jeffers in the 8th inning.

Bichette then came in clutch in the bottom of the 8th inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, the infielder smashed a 3-run double, which saw the Mets retake the lead.

The Twins pulled another run back through Gray in the 9th inning, but were unable to level up the proceedings again and lost 10-8. These back-to-back losses meant that they dropped the series to the Mets after winning the opening game.

Bichette’s moment was so good that even team owner Steve Cohen could not contain himself. In a post on X, the Mets owner expressed that it was a “big boy” moment for him. Given the slow start he had to his season, this was certainly a huge moment.

The Mets, who are now 9-16, do not have the worst record in their NL East division, as the Philadelphia Phillies lost again. The Queens-based side will be hoping to keep up their winning momentum as they take on the 10-16 Colorado Rockies in the next series.
