‘Gutted’ Mike McDaniel wants to go back to the drawing board and assess Dolphins’ future “very critically” after loss to Titans

The Miami Dolphins’ troubles continued as they lost 31-12 to a winless Tennessee Titans on Monday. The Dolphins are last in the AFC East with one win from four games behind the New England Patriots.
The Dolphins are still reeling from the loss of their quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, to a concussion in Week 2. The replacement Tyler Huntley was sluggish, completing 14 passes out of 22 attempts for 96 passing yards.
The Dolphins signed Huntley in Week 3 from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad to fill the void left by Tagovailoa. They lacked their highly offensive style of game limiting to just 106 yards on the field.
The Titans, despite losing their starter Will Levis to a shoulder injury early in the game, had no issues punishing the Dolphins. The replacement Mason Rudolph was able to finish 9-of-17 passing for 85 yards and no turnovers. The Dolphins will be missing Tagovailoa for some more games and in the meantime they can’t keep adding losses.
Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins HC, spoke to the media after the deplorable game at home. He admitted that there has been a serious disconnect between the preparation and execution phases. McDaniel added that the work done behind the scenes doesn’t matter if the on-field looks terrible.
McDaniel might have lost Tagovailoa, but he still has two proven offensive weapons in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. He could be thinking of drawing up plays to get the ball to them and get the job done. Nonetheless, sans the two, the cupboard looks empty and null without the highly paid quarterback who could deliver.
Safety Jevon Holland thinks the Dolphins’ situation can change
The Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland thinks that the dire straits could change and they need to trust in the process. He advised that now is the time to stick together and they will come out of this slump.
Holland was a part of the 2021 Dolphins squad that started 1-7 and finished 9-8 in the season. It was also the Tennessee Titans who crushed their playoff dreams with a win in Week 17 eroding a miracle postseason run. Having the experience, Holland noted that they will have to revert to the basics and start next week with a clear conscience.
The Dolphins are in no good shape. Since 1966, only 25 teams have made it to playoffs after starting a season with three losses in their first four games.
The New England Patriots, whom the Dolphins face next week, have done it in 2001 and eventually won the Super Bowl. However, another loss reduces their chances even fewer – only 12 teams have done so.
