On Sunday, the New York Yankees became the latest team to suffer elimination from playoff contention. The season had been a tough one for them where many players struggled with their performances. The fans would brutally trash the team on social media following their exit after a 7-1 demolishing loss to the Arizona D-Backs. Captain Aaron Judge has now admitted that a lot of things went wrong for them.

The 27-time World Series winner started the season strong. At one point in April, they had an impressive record. Till the midst of June, the Yanks were on pace for another postseason run. However, an injury to Judge completely took their season off the tracks. Their offense fell off which cost the team several games.

There’s a lot that went wrong. What it comes down to is, we just didn’t come out here and do our job,” Judge said while opening up about the poor season. “With the type of lineup we have, the pitching rotation, we’ve just got to show up collectively,” the Yankee captain further added while admitting their failure.

While Judge would return to the lineup later, the damage was already done for the Yankees. Despite missing several games, Judge has once again contributed well as he currently sits with 35 home runs and 71 RBIs to his name. This will be the first time since 2016 that the Bronx Bombers will not play in the knockout phase of the competition.

DJ LeMahieu claims the Yankees were unable to put things together

The New York Yankees are one of the biggest names in sporting history. Such a big name carries the pressure of delivering consistently. Since their 2009 triumph, the Yankees have failed to claim their 28th World Series title. Their second baseman DJ LeMahieu has now admitted that the team was simply good enough but failed to come up together.

We know we’re good enough to be where we want to be. We just haven’t done it,” LeMahieu said while reacting to his team’s elimination. “It’s frustrating because we know we’ve got the guys. We just couldn’t collectively put it together,” he further added.

Injuries to several players like Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, and Nestor Cortes and the controversies surrounding Domingo German and Jimmy Cordero all reflected this poor season. One thing that came out good for them apart from Judge is the performance of ace pitcher Gerrit Cole. He has performed with excellence throughout the season and has become a contender for the AL Cy Young Award.

There is a saying that states “every cloud has a silver lining.” For the Yankees at the moment, there are several dark clouds looming above their heads. How manager Aaron Boone along with general manager Brian Cashman turn this season around next year remains to be seen. There is a big possibility that there could be a massive squad overhaul before the Opening Day next year.
