As we have said before, commentary is not an easy work. A person who works as a commentator must be fully aware of his situation and use precise words. It is easy to get lost in words while living in the rapid world of the internet. Phillies’ announcer, Kevin Stocker, had a significant slip-up while on-air trying to promote the team’s Dick Allen bobblehead promotion.
In honor of the late great Dick Allen, the Phillies‘ are giving away bobbleheads to celebrate his legacy. Kevin Stocker was called upon to read the script to advertise and inform this. During the game on Monday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he had a major slip-up. This incident took place in the second inning.
“Clear a space on your shelf and get ready to bring home a legend when the Phils host the Dodgers on Friday, June 9. All the fans and over receive a Johnson controlled d********… a Dick Allen bobble figurine,” Kevin Stocker was recorded on the mic. He would immediately learn about this error and quickly composed himself to finish up the promo.
Philadelphia Phillies get swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers
The name of Kevin Stocker is a familiar one in the Phillies family. They drafted the now 53-year-old in the second round in the 1991 draft. The switch hitter played four years for them before joining the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998. He would retire in 2000, last playing for the Anaheim Angels in 2000. He started serving as a color analyst later. In 2018, he joined the radio broadcast team. He would rejoin them last year and has been working as a radio color commentator since then.
The Philadelphia Phillies have stayed quiet on this unfortunate slip-up by Kevin Stocker. One of the reasons could be their dreadful performance against the Dodgers. They got swept in the three-game series and conceded over ten runs in all three games. The Phillies faithful were making a huge noise before the series started as the return of Bryce Harper grew closer. They have now gone silent.
After being blown apart in the first two games, they might get away with at least one win. They tied the game at 6-6 in the ninth and hope to take it beyond extra innings. A Max Muncy walk-off grand slam destroyed that hope, though as they gave up 33 runs in three games. Their next assignment now is facing the Boston Red Sox.
