Chael Sonnen is a name that is known by every hardcore MMA fan. Loved not only for his exploits in the cage, his shenanigans on the mic are also very well documented.

When Chael Sonnen retired, fans had already anticipated what he might endeavour to do next in his career. Although he had already begun to post on YouTube, his big break came at the height of the pandemic, when the sport garnered new found attention, and in the process, developed an even larger fanbase.

What fans can expect from him is his verbosity, and also the critical analysis that he puts forward whenever he investigates a hot topic. For these reasons, among others, he has left behind other fighters-turned-analysts, like Daniel Cormier, Michael Bisping and Dan Hardy, as far as YouTube is concerned.

Now, he might have vocally asserted his dominance over the king of podcasts, and one of the most recognized faces on the Earth right now, Joe Rogan. He said, “I am not one of the biggest voices in the sport, I am the biggest. And, I understand the arrogance in that statement, and, please don’t tell me Joe Rogan is bigger. Joe Rogan has 25 five topics and I have one. I do not give a damn who’s on the moon!

Sonnen might have a point in his assertion – the JRE podcast hosts a slew of guests who talk about a myriad of topics. In between the podcasts, if the guests show interest, Joe Rogan delves into MMA. Additionally, it is only occasionally that he hosts purely MMA-based guests on his show. On the other hand, Chael Sonnen talks about just one topic on his YouTube show, which makes the content deep, rather than wide.

However, Sonnen and Rogan might have some similarities, it seems. While Rogan spent the better half of 2020 and 2021 mired in controversy, Sonnen has now found himself in trouble as well – albeit, legal trouble. Earlier this year, it was reported that Sonnen had been charged with 11 counts of misdemeanours, during his time out in Sin City.

Whether it be ironic or not, Sonnen had once, in a post-fight interview said, “1 on 1, 2 on 1, or 5 on 1, I’ll make them all need 911.” Certainly, “The Bad Guy” lived up to his words years later!
