Trans athletes fighting in MMA has been a topic of debate in recent times. Many people have been arguing if trans women should be allowed to compete in a sport with the average woman. This debate stems from transgender females having a competitive advantage because they are biologically male. However, trans athlete Fallon Fox has been the victim of crowd scrutiny due to a recent botched viral video.
Fallon Fox is a retired martial artist who has 5 wins and 1 loss in her professional MMA career. Fox is the first openly transgender athlete to compete in MMA in 2013. Fallon Fox is no stranger to criticisms for competing against women. However, Fox was condemned a lot after her mishandled fight footage went viral. The video was retweeted by US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and quickly became viral.
“A biological man fractures a woman’s skull. We used to call this violence against women. Now we call it a victory for trans rights.” said the tweet. Fox can be seen knocking out a female fighter Erica Newsome at CFA. In her post-fight interview, Fox calls out the women fighters in the organisation. However, she sounds a lot like a man during the call-out. Fallon Fox since then has slammed the candidate claiming he used a fake video.
Fallon claimed that her voice is doctored to sound like a man and called out Vivek Ramaswamy for spreading hate. “Not even my voice. This guy calls himself a presidential candidate,” said Fallon. She also revealed a side-by-side comparison of the original and fake video. Her voice was clearly messed with to sound more like a man. This however is not the first Fallon has been a victim of fake news. Fallon retired from mixed martial arts nearly a decade ago but faces criticism till today.
Male fighter defeats trans woman fighter when they lock horns in the octagon
Trans athletes competing in a sport like mixed martial arts has been a topic of discussion for many. While trans fighters mostly dominate women in an MMA bout, what would happen if they fought a male fighter? This question has been answered after fans witnessed Shane Mistretta lock horns with Gita Figueroa( trans fighter) at WCFL 32.
The event took place in June 2022 in the lightweight division. Gita fared well against Shane Mistretta at first but the tables turned pretty soon. The duo had a scrap for 2 minutes inside the cage. However, Mistretta came out with a barrage of strikes from close range knocking out Gita. The fight was stopped by the referee at 2:35 minutes of the first round and Mistretta won via knockout.
The video recently went viral on social media and met with a mixed response from fight fans. It was also reposted by UFC middleweight Israel Adesanya who seemed weirded out by the fight itself.
