“End of an era” – Twitter reacts to Rory MacDonald’s abrupt retirement after 17 years of comprehensive excellence

One of the best Welterweights in Mixed Martial Arts in the past decade, Rory MacDonald has been involved in a lot of wars throughout his carrier. Although he was only able to become a champion in one of the three biggest promotions he competed in. He still was a fan favourite for his wars inside the octagon.

MacDonald has competed in the UFC, Bellator and the PFL. Prior to his retirement, he used to compete in the Welterweight division of the PFL. He started his MMA carrier in 2005 at the age of sixteen. He was also the Bellator Welterweight champion. After 34 fights in Rory’s 17years MMA carrier, his record stand at 23-10-1. He is also a former King of the Cage Lightweight Champion.

At the age of 33, MacDonald was involved in some of the most thrilling matches in the UFC as well as Bellator. He went to war against Robby Lawler twice. Be it his fight against Carlos Condit or him absolutely dismantling Nate Diaz at UFC 129. With exciting fights like these, he cemented his place in MMA. After a successful stint in UFC Red King achieved the most in his Bellator days. However, he failed to reach the same heights in the PFL. Rory retired after going 2-4 in the promotion.

Following his loss at the hands of Dilano Taylor via TKO in round one, Rory MacDonald announced his retirement from the sport. MacDonald wrote, “My time has come to put the gloves down for good.”After the announcement, the MMA community started reacting to the announcement on Twitter. Twitter was filled with fans reacting to the Red King’s retirement.
