The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed some of the most dominating batting performances since its inception in 2008. Best batters from across the world take part in the cash-rich league and in some cases, as lone warriors, they would singlehandedly aid in the team’s reaching heights.

When talking about batting records, one name that comes to everyone’s mind is former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli. 2016 was the season, and the 34-year-old was enjoying the form of his life, racking up a whopping 973 runs from 16 matches, taking the team to the summit clash.

Then there is England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler whose scintillating show in the 2022 season took the Rajasthan Royals (RR) final. And now, a youngster is eyeing to break these records. Gujarat Titans‘ (GT) Shubman Gill has already crossed the 800-run mark in one season, since making his debut in 2018.

Kohli’s record was in danger as like the RCB great, Buttler also hammered four IPL tons in a single season. However, during most part of the second half, his bat remained quiet.

Had he played like the first half, he would have surpassed Kohli’s 973 runs. Nevertheless, behind Rajasthan Royals’ reaching their second IPL final since their maiden trophy-winning season in 2008, the 32-year-old played a massive role, though, the Pink Jersey couldn’t defend a small target against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final. In 17 matches, Buttler collected 863 runs at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05, with four centuries and the same number of fifties.
