The 2023 Mugello MotoGP race weekend was a horrid experience for Marc Marquez and Honda. It was a clear example that the team is not moving forward in the direction that they expected to go in. After the Mugello weekend came to an end, a meeting was called between Marquez and the Honda bosses to discuss further plan of action. The Spaniard has revealed a few details about the meet-up that took place.
Following Honda’s disaster in Mugello, a private meeting was called between Marc Marquez, Honda’s second-in-command Shinji Aoyama, and HRC president Koji Watanabe. In the meeting, they discussed the team’s plan of action for the future whilst listening to the issues that the Spaniard brought up. He has now come to the German GP to race and is seemingly look’s satisfied with how the meeting went.
Mugello was a race weekend to forget for Honda. Whilst Pecco Bagnaia emerged victorious on home soil for Ducati, Marc Marquez was nowhere to be seen as he crashed out after an intense battle for a top 4 finish. Ducati dominated all weekend with the top 4 spots in the race standings all being held by the Italian manufacturer. Marc possibly also discussed his future with the team and possibly in the sport with Honda.
Marc Marquez is pleased with the talks held with Honda
In an interview, here is what he had to say. “They have not apologised to me and I do not expect them to either,” Marquez told AS. “Because nobody wants to do a bad project.Sometimes it will turn out better and other times worse, but it is true that we have been stagnant for a few years,” he said. “They are aware that there is a problem and hopefully we will find the solution. A solution as soon as possible,” he continued.
Marc Marquez has a high paying contract with Honda until 2024. As the years go by, it seems like Honda’s performance has been dropping a lot. Whilst Pecco Bagnaia is leading the championship, Marc is all the way down in 18th position. Alex Rins is the topmost Honda rider in the championship standings and he is also just 11th. It has been a tough year for Honda and 2024 seems to be just on the horizon. It will be interesting to see what changes the Japanese manufacturer makes to increase the performance of their bikes.
