Marc Marquez didn’t really have the best of starts to the 2023 MotoGP season with Honda’s woes in pre-season testing. However, it was all put to rest after the Spaniard managed to shock the whole paddock by breaking the lap record twice. Apart from that, he also went on to take pole position for the season opening Portuguese Grand Prix. This was a massive achievement for the rider and the team.

Many thought that Marc Marquez won’t be able to compete for the world championship following a tough winter for the team. Nevertheless, it is obvious that one should never count out Marc Marquez from the lot. He came through Q1 by setting a new lap record and further went on to set an even faster lap. The Spanish rider did a lap time of 1m37.226s which was completely bonkers.

The Spanish rider will have reigning MotoGP word champion Pecco Bagnaia and Pramac Ducati rider Jorge Martin by his side for today’s sprint. 2021 MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha’s troubles continue as the Frenchman qualified P11. Marquez on the other hand was the only honda rider to progress into the pole shootout session.

The inaugural MotoGP sprint race will take place at 3pm GMT today. The excitement is tremendous as it is a new format for everyone. Alex Rins will start his first race as a LCR Honda rider from 16th place. It has been wonderful to see Marc Marquez’s journey from injuring himself to getting back to challenging for poles and possibly victories. It is a testament to his determination and resilience. It will be interesting to see where he finishes in the sprint today.
