23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace came into the 2024 season with high hopes after having a career best season in 2023 that saw him make it into the R-12. But owing his inconsistency, the No:23 Toyota driver has found himself in a must win situation ahead of the regular season finale at Darlington Raceway.
He has started the weekend on a high note by securing the pole position and positioned himself in the best way to start the race. But this doesn’t make the race any less stressful, considering Bubba Wallace has never won a race from the pole and there is stiff competition. The fact that he hasn’t won a single race in over two years hurt as well.
While talking about the same, the 23XI driver admitted that he is stressed about not being on the victory lane in the last two season. But there still a positive aspect to it, as he isn’t as stressed as he was last year in the regular season finale or the R-12 cutoff race, as he has learned to be more composed this season.
I think from a bigger picture, I'm stressed about being winless in damn near two seasons. Let's say this was Daytona last year or [the] Bristol [elimination] race. I have no stress compared to those last year, and I think that's for the better.Bubba Wallace said via ESPN.
Kevin Harvick asserts Bubba Wallace is in a must win situation
2014 NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick while talking about the No:23 driver pointed out that he is a must win situation alongside fellow rival Ross Chastain. He asserted that Bubba Wallace and Chastain has a little too much gap to Chris Buescher to make it on points to the next round.
It's interesting that we're here, with the #23 and the #1. Those guys are on the outside looking in. To me, they're in a must-win situation. They're way behind Chris Buescher. The only way that Chris Buescher stumbles is if they have a catastrophic issue, moment or issueKevin Harvick said via the Happy Hour podcast.
Bubba Wallace has had a really good start to the weekend with pole win, hence he has to now work extra hard to make sure he can bag a win. It will be interesting to see how the regular season finale will playout with multiple bubble drivers desperate for a win.
