The NASCAR Cup garage is at the Darlington Raceway this weekend for the 2024 regular season finale. It would be an interesting race considering it’s the first non-Daytona finale in a long-time and a number of bubble drivers are coming in desperate for a race win. The regular season championship contenders would be a huge factor in the race as well.
2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick made his race prediction via his Happy Hours podcast. He is betting on Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron to win and score his fourth triumph of the season. It’s a wild prediction considering the Chevy team peaked too early in the season and is currently experiencing a slump.
I’m going to back up a little bit, and I think, you know, as we look back at the beginning of the season and some of the cars that had we thought were dominant, when you look at the Hendrick cars, you look at the No. 5, you look at the No. 24, I’m going to go with William Byron.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
He admitted that the No:24 team is in the best form because of the wrecks and injuries happened to Byron. But he feels that they have started to get back on their feet and considering they had a great race Michigan, they can challenge for the win on this Sunday.
I think he’s been battling through some things since, you know, his injury or his wreck, and I think that those guys are starting to get their feet back on the ground. I like the way that they ran at Michigan. So, I’m going to say Willie B gets it back on track.Kevin Harvick added.
Kevin Harvick claims Bubba Wallace and Ross Chastain are in must-win situation
Two drivers who are more desperate than Byron coming into the weekend is Ross Chastain and Bubba Wallace. They are P18 and P17 in the championship respectively and has very minimal chance of making it into the playoff on points. According to Harvick these two has nothing to do but to win the races.
To me, they’re in a must-win situation. They’re way behind Chris Buescher. The only way that Chris Buescher stumbles is if they have a catastrophic issue, moment or issue. [Martin] Truex is in, Ty Gibbs is basically going to just need a day where he doesn’t have anything torn up. And so, to me, those guys are in a must-win situation.Kevin Harvick said.
The champion does have a valid argument about the duo being in a must win situation as unlike in Daytona there is less chance to see Chris Buescher or Ty Gibbs getting caught in a mess and finishing dead-last. It will be interesting to see how the race would playout for the duo.
